The 2018 DIS forum user album of the year DISCUSSION THREAD

Not to be that guy but you’ve put Drug Church twice, ya dick!

(Good list tho!)

Aye I know, it’s cuz I moved it up from 20th to 11th (10th when you discount hookworms) but forgot to get rid of the original placing and only noticed after

Bonjour tout le monde (remember me ?)

Bit too early for me to chose an album of the year as some great albums were just released last week (Josephine Foster) or will be soon (Hammock).

So far, my top5 might be :
Dante - I Wear Your Weight with Mine
Basement Revolver - Heavy Eyes
Distance, Light & Sky - Gold Coast
Winter - Ethereality
Willower - Fallow (it’s name your price here and really beautiful https://willowermusic.bandcamp.com/album/fallow )

  1. Let’s Eat Grandma - I’m All Ears
  2. Snail Mail - Lush

(boygenius EP)
(Hatchie - Sugar & Spice EP)

  1. Kali Uchis - Isolation
  2. Empress Of - Us
  3. Robyn - Honey
  4. Beach House - 7
  5. Anna Von Hausswolff - Dead Magic
  6. Low - Double Negative
  7. Kacey Musgrave
  8. Soccer Mommy - Clean
  9. SOPHIE - OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES
  10. The Spirit of the Beehive - Hypnic Jerks
  11. Cloud Castle Lake - Malingerer
  12. Saba - CARE FOR ME
  13. CHVRCHES - Love Is Dead
  14. Teyana Taylor - K.T.S.E.
  15. Courtney Barnett - Tell Me How You Really Feel
  16. Gwenno - Le Kov
  17. Slow Mass - On Watch
  18. Tomberlin - At Weddings
  19. Adrienne Lenker - abysskiss
  20. world’s greatest dad - Get Well Soon
  21. Studio Barnhus Volym 1 (compilation)
  22. Cat Power - Wanderer
  23. Big Red Machine - Big Red Machine

Quite a big gap between the top 2 and the rest. Those two have been nip-tuck all year though. Probably subconsciously went for LEG because they’ve got a better chance of keeping IDLES from top spot.:crossed_fingers:

One of the few records I had no idea how I heard about - quite possibly through a Spotify algorhythm or something? Regardless it’s excellent, had the pleasure of supporting them last month and it was one of my gigs of the year. Think they might be back for a tour around May time so keep an eye.

Crack Cloud would have been through a promoter friend earlier in the year, Pardans was through a buddy telling me about their debut last year (which is good but the new one is outrageous) and Daughters and LEG would have been through the album releases threads on the boards.

How can you not connect with CSH? You blow my mind sometimes Severed. Good job you’re still in credit from getting Protomartyr right last year

And yes, definitely counts as a 2018 release.

The Hatchie EP is brilliant. I finally saw her at Electrowerks a few weeks ago. Great live too.

Speaking of car seat headrest…

Glad that’s that cleared up then.

Right. I’m repeating what I did last year: choosing a top 64 and then pairing them off randomly and making them slug it out head to head to get through to the next round. Eventually one winner will be victorious (hopefully before Christmas / the extinction of life on Earth). Stay tuned to find out who is going through from this lot! (I’ve actually done most of the head to heads on this round; it takes forever):

Not sure what’s happened to the formatting at the end there. It’s copied across from the website where I do the random pairings.

Parquet Courts down at number 9, I told y’all the tide was turning!

Poll options should be:
The five albums you like the best .
The five albums you want people to know that you like.

Was reading through the votes and thinking to myself, “I really do not belong here”, when:

Eh?

I still love this album, I probably won’t get to vote for it though unfortunately. Still no idea why it’s being rated so lowly, the whole thing is great.
