This is the 10 year anniversary of me running these polls. My, doesn’t time fly?

Not falling into the trap of going early found my favourite album of the year until 22 December after submitting last year.

I love lists.

Reckon I’ve got a shortlist of roughly 40. Feels like less than last year but, I’ve felt there have been less good album this year on the whole. Also felt like albums came out in bursts like we got 3 or 4 good albums 1 friday a month and then maybe an alright album every other friday the rest of the month.

I will endeavour to do it again, had a lot of fun hosting it last year!

Realistically for me it’s going to be Deafcult, Wednesday, and The Murder Capital as the top 3. Yo La Tengo and Blonde Redhead are probably the favorites at the moment to round out the top 5, but we’ll see.

The Midwife album is incredible and definitely AOTY quality but it’s just so short, that’s the only knock against it. Probably the second-for-second most perfect release of the year.

Just popping in to admire the polling thread with no chst, and one perfectly formatted list. Wonder how long that will last?

@moderators wonder if you’d mind stickying the polling thread please?

Pinned until 1 jan, hope that’s ok

Think traditionally it runs a bit longer for the polling here, usually a few days maybe a week even after new year.

Similar. I’ve got mine down to 32. No idea where it’ll end up from here! No clear winner for me at the moment.

I think I have a fairly settled top 5 for once - largely due to having rinsed a small number of things and having had lots of other stuff I haven’t properly got round to listening to despite wanting to. Will do some more delving before committing but I think top 5 likely in some order to be

Lanterns on the Lake
Black Country, New Road
Boygenius
Young Fathers
The Hold Steady

OK I’ll give it an extra week or so

Awesome, thanks. Already stressed that there’s only nine days left to finalise votes for November’s album of the month thread; will be running my year end to the wire as usual!

Lana Del Rey is my top pick. Yo La Tengo, Maija Sofia, Madder Rose and Lael Neale after that.

My top five might change in a week’s time and then it would differ after another week and so I’ll call it that and stick with it.

Unfortunately it hasn’t been a classic year for album releases. I’m happy with my damn strong top five but a top 10 or 20 would be a weak one this year for me.

Been thinking about this recently. Might make my own thread to keep on top of things. Ran Cap Duoi, Lankum and Hamish Hawk will feature.
