Hope everyone has recovered from the football festivities, regardless of your allegiances. Iit’s now time for THE GREATEST SPORTING COMPETITION IN THE WORLD, THE G1 CLIMAX!
(with Callum Newman and Oleg Boltin filling the A & B qualifier spots respectively)
With the departure of Okada, and Tanahashi too old, this is probably the least “star-studded”, G1 for quite some time, although NJPW’s star power has been on the decline pretty much from the inception of AEW onwards. That said, Konosuke Takeshita being thrown in is incredibly exciting in a fairly winnable Block B, while NJPW’s remaining stars have been largely shoved into Block A. The big question being, COULD THIS FINALLY BE ZACH SABRE JR’S year???
G1 kicks off this Saturday (20th) with both blocks in action, headlined by Naito vs Takagi and probably the most handsome fixture of the tournament, Tsuji vs Takeshita.
As for America, next up we have WWE’s big summer soiree, Summerslam, coming Saturday August 3rd from Cleveland. Just the two matches announced so far, both as a result of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments earlier in the year:
| No. | Matches* | Stipulations |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Damian Priest (c) vs. Gunther | for the World Heavyweight Championship |
| 2 | Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax | for the WWE Women’s Championship |
And then of course, AEW returns to Wembley Stadium, London, for it’s biggest show of the year ALL IN. As if stands, this show is currently in the exact same position as Summerslam; two title matches determined by tournament winners, in this case, The Owen Hart Cup.
| 1 | Timeless Toni Storm (c) (with Luther) vs. Mariah May | Singles match for the AEW Women’s World Championship |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Swerve Strickland (c) (with Prince Nana) vs. Bryan Danielson | Singles match for the AEW World Championship |
Plenty of bollix to come however and hey maybe we’ll get some nice weather too. Give me your predictions and most anticipated matches, grap fans!
