The 2025 Summer Wrestling Thread! Feat. Saudi Blood Money! Counter-programming! All In! Summerslam! & The 35th G1 Climax!

Happy

Summer, graps fans!

After we all successfully ignore that Saudi Arabia show that definitely doesn’t exist (right?!) we have an extremely busy summer schedule including WWE trying with all it’s might to avoid people watching AEW’s biggest show of the year with three supercards, the G1 CLIMAX 35 tournament kicking off shortly after, Summerslam taking place over two nights for the first time and climaxing at AEW and NJPW’s Forbidden Door in London!

Lots of intrigue as ever to speculate about too as Punk sells out in Saudi, Goldberg gives everyone a scare, Hangman potentially finally ending the Death Riders in Cowboy Country, The 5th installment of the Okada vs Omega feud, the Fed’s women’s only PPV Evolution making a return, and of course, who will win the most prestigious tournament in all of wrestling.

Our G1 Blocks look like this:

with 4 playoffs to take place on June 23rd and July 4th to fill out the rest of the spots! Will wrestling come home once again with Zack or even Gabe Kidd this time? Will there be anything left of Tanahashi’s knees and back by the time of Forbidden Door? Will EVIL have recruited every competitor to the House of Torture by tournament’s end?

Let’s do it, to it! Wrestling, that is.

I’ll be watching the Saudi show sorry. It’s John Cena Vs CM Punk

Dunno if watching a Saudi show is any more morally suspect than watching an American show ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Me too :see_no_evil:

At this point, aye, basically the same now anyway, I just wanted to poke a bit of fun at Punk

Women’s KOTR final will be good too if it’s Asuka v Roxanne.

Yoshi-hashi vs The Inexplicable Cowboy Chase Owens being a play in match for the G1 is keeping me up at night. Finally doing Yoshi vs Goto in the G1 seems like a no brainer. But New Japan’s booking of late is utterly baffling. They will not rest until it’s all House of Torture all the time.

It won’t be :frowning:

Forbidden Door could be extremely confusing
I can see them rerunning Omega v Kidd for kennys shiny new belt, and gifting Goto a defense over Okada seems a no brainer also
Ospreay may finally get his win over Swerve in London which would be a nice step in his story

Other than that we’ll be getting House of Torture v Hurt Business i guess

We should probably see some more CMLL involvement after Grand Slam I would have thought. Which will either lead to an excellent card or just a really, really bloody long show. Possibly both.

I’ve no idea what the NJPW matches will look like tbh. Omega/Kidd seems obvious but them both having belts could complicate things. It’d be nice to see a Golden Lovers reunion instead but I’ve no idea how Ibushi stands with New Japan these days.

Okada has seemed determined not to wrestle anyone from New Japan since he left so it’ll be interesting to see how he’s involved. Goto really wants a match with Shibata, which would be great but probably of limited appeal. Hopefully Takeshita will set something up in the G1 but the rest of it may well be put together via dartboard.

The thing I want to see most this year is just not an AEW vs AEW main event. I can see why they did it last year with the current lack of international stars in New Japan but it’s a bit rum for a joint show.

I reckon theres such a high chance of Ospreay-Swerce 3 or Hangmans first defense against Takeshita

Hangman v Takeshita is at least 25% NJPW so that might have to do

Giving Ospreay a big win in London would probably make sense tbf

Can’t believe Royal Rumble 95. What a stinker. The Harris Brothers! Jimmy del Ray! Men on a Mission! Mantaur! Also Montoya! Well Dunn! Adam Bomb! And career highlight gimmicks, Kwang, Sione and Duke Droese.

Quite looking forward to getting stuck into 95 to see just how bad it gets.

I’ve watched all the WCW ppvs up to this point too, the gulf is quite stark at this point.

Anyone know when the Rev Pro/CMLL Fantastica Mania tickets are likely to go on sale/how much they’ll cost? Never been to a Rev Pro show before but I quite fancy watching them marvellous lucha lads fly about the place for an evening

Rev Pro usually pretty reasonably priced from experience (vague without looking it up I know)
