Came across the Gaga episode on the telly one day and was horrified at how bad new Simpsons had become. Was actually kind of relieved when I learned that it’s considered a bit of an outlier.
Just finished S13 and it was a lot worse than I remembered. S14 is holding up a little better so far.
My major gripe with modern Simpsons is the voice acting. Especially Dan Castellaneta’s comic timing, which appeared to vanish completely at some point in the early 00s - Everything has to be said quickly and in the ‘whackiest’ way possible now. But the producers still keep chucking more and more money at them…
These days Marge sounds like, well, she’s 70 years old.
agree but i would have said his punchlines are much slower and more laboured in the later ones, just to really emphasise that there is supposed to be a joke there
The Simpsons will finish when a major cast member retires or passes away

That’s already happened hasn’t it?
Marcia Wallace (Mrs Krabappel) died a few years ago, I know she was a regular but I guess not a key member of the cast. I think it would have to be one of the family or Azaria / Shearer
Oh I thought Harry Shearer left over pay but turns out he eventually backed down
Yeah they gave him his millions to literally phone it in
Roll up roll up
Simultaneously excited for them to fix the aspect ratio on D+ so I can start a rewatch and disgusted with myself for being the kind of person who cares about “aspect ratios”
Spent a good week perfecting this list:
https://www.grindhousecinemaclub.com/posts/the-20-greatest-simpsons-episodes
It’s correct. Argue with me.
Greaat list, not succumbing to the vastly overrated Last Exit to Springfield
Good list, but no Lemon of Troy
Meh. It’s probably top 30, what are you taking out of the 20 for it?
If I could have had 21, Hurricane Neddy would have been there.
