I remember hating this bit when I was a kid for some reason and seeing it as emblematic of the seriesā€™ decline. Dunno why I thought that now; tā€™is great, that bit

found these quite interesting reads:

https://antihumansite.wordpress.com/2018/02/09/i-watched-all-629-episodes-of-the-simpsons-in-a-month-heres-what-i-learned/

Completely disagree with that first articleā€™s central premise. At its best, the Simpsons was a character-driven series and was empathetic. It was the later episodes which were nihilistic at heart, and desparate above all to make us laugh; itā€™s just that the writers forgot how to tell a joke.

Good summary of Lisa, though. I always thought that Family Guy, in its own nasty, ersatz, reductionist way, laid bare how the Simpsons had treated Lisa for a very long time.

s2 is good, has a couple of my low key favourite episodes. why not just start at the beginning? s1 is a bit weird now with some of the animation and voices but thereā€™s still some good episodes

S1 is mostly shite but quite short I think? S2 is quite good but still finding its way, probably worth including though
