I think they may be the best band ever
best video ever made
The Beach Boys "Cuddle Up" - YouTube this song is amazing
You mean this.....?
Anyone seen the Disney doc? Seen half, a bit Beach Boys on fast forward but its nicely done
I was looking at it yesterday on my Disney+ homescreen, please report back on the amount of screen time given to Mike Love. Thanks.
Actually, thereās a thread in ābands you love with a member that you actively hateā.
Heās got a bit of time but tbf heās been quite affable and honest. Not onto Pet Sounds yet so it may change
Finally got around to watching yesterday and I was surprised how conciliatory Mike Love was. Itās alright, clearly more aimed at casual viewers/fans with a bizarre choice of talking heads who didnāt particularly add anything. Potential spoiler:
Summary
The beach scene at the end was lovely, I hope Brian knew what was going on and wasnāt just thinking āwho the hell are these old guys?ā.
Yeah its very much a Disneyfied sped through version of the story but theyāre just such a fascinating band. Defo scope for a whole series . Think Love probably had some creative control but the bit where he just goes if I could say anythingā¦Iād say i love him, with eyes tearing got me
Watched it this morning and really enjoyed it. Would have loved a full series with a bit more depth on the post-Pet Sounds stuff but Iām sure a lot of it is out there if I were to dig around. I could watch Brian in the studio sliding the faders up and down isolating vocal tracks all day. Also saved one of my very favourite songs for the closing credits.
Kokomo?
No, Darlinā, just have a real soft spot for it.
Imagine if they played Summer of Love
might be my favourite BB song too!
Mike Love comes across as a bit better in this, he still very much has a confidence in his contributions to the band and wanting a bit more of that adulation than Brian rightly gets and I think heās right to say that if the respect was shared around a bit more perhaps Brian wouldnāt have felt under so much pressure. Had a really lovely quote as well in this, something like we were the only group good enough to sing Brianās dreams.
Probably the most positive Iāll ever be about Mike Love tbh
Yeah Iām a Mike Love apologist (as a songwriter not as a person) so Iām glad he wasnāt too annoying in this
Hey now its a love thing record scratch
Watched the Disney film last night.
My wife really doesnāt like them aside from the odd single and I only really know a few albums.
Served us well therefore as it was not too deep a dive. They dealt with the father relationship well too I thought given the sensitivities involved.
Absolutely wild how young David Marks was when he joined.
