the big fucking question you've all been waiting for

When you’re writing down an address, and the town has the same name as the county, do you write it twice, or just the once?
  • I write the full formal address, repeating the same word twice as they are for different purposes
  • I just write it once, you can work it out and the same word twice is just too much
  • I have never had to do this
  • I am inconsistent

“London,
Greater London”

Funny imo

The evil part of me just wants to write the house number, the street and the postocode, but seeing as I want the thing to get there I usually go the whole hog, even using my best handwriting. But having spent a couple of Christmases loading the postcode reading machines down at the sorting office I know it makes fuck all difference.

Do you write the postcode on its own dedicated line or alongside the city

  • Own line, for maximum postie respect
  • Same as city for a nice vibe
  • Mix it up
  • Too busy worrying my 5 looks like an S

I would write the county as either abbreviated or in full. I.e.

Lincoln
Lincs

Or

Lincoln
Lincolnshire

Thanks

Which is better?
  • house number, then street name (UK system)
  • street name, then house number (NL system)

It’s obviously the UK system, for the same reason the UK date system is better than the USA one

Lincoln(shire)

My rule seems to be own line unless its London

The postie doesn’t give a toss about the postcode.

  • Postcode before the city
  • Postcode after the city

depends if it’s the historic ceremonial county or not

Also, where do you write the address on a letter in the year 2023? I can’t even begin to create a poll about that one because there are too many options, and I’m terrified
