So Musk was pretending to be up in arms about the opening ceremony but hasn’t even heard of Christmas
The entirely fake and incorrect info about the Southport knife attacker yesterday (that he was an asylum seeker, came over on a boat, wrong name) came from a single unverified Twitter account with “news” in its name that has about 3k followers.
It spread to every inch of the country, was reposted by multiple people on different platforms that didn’t mention the source, and went through every workplace and family group chat even before the police gave a statement about him, by which time most people either weren’t listening or assumed that first batch of information they read was true.
It’s properly chilling, awful, harmful stuff.

I know how snobby this is but I don’t get how anyone left-wing can continue to use Twitter and feel good about it. There are other places - don’t let Elon Musk benefit from your usage statistics. Just bin it off.

twitter and all the horrendous people perpetuating deranged conspiracies don’t just go away because all the left wing people leave though, it’s clear that it’s just going to live in zombie mode forever and still have a huge impact on people who may not be as politically savvy as us disers. i dunno, feels a bit like a reverse of the whole echo chamber thing, ‘i’m not on twitter anymore but for some reason people keep voting reform?’
edit: i’m obviously not saying it’s not a good thing to leave twitter, just that i worry about pretending it doesn’t exist
The sooner them numbers dwindle the sooner it dies though. And I’m not sure having bile pumped directly into your eyeballs courtesy of an ego tripping billionaire with a terrible agenda ultimately benefits anyone. And if it does it’s almost certainly the aforementioned billionaire.

Really feel I must live in an alternate reality or something because my Twitter experience is still absolutely fine apart from the ads, even on the for you page.
Fact is there’s still nowhere else with political/social commentary that is anywhere near as comprehensive. Or football coverage

But honestly, what does that do to improve your life? I’ve genuinely felt so much better for not doom-scrolling through Twitter and getting in arguments with dickheads, and you can usually get most of elements of what you’re describing elsewhere, if you really need it.
But yeah, everyone’s experience of it probably differs, so… yeah, idk
