Who voted for Booker T?

I always assumed they did it like ‘okay you’re gonna beat me up a lot for 5 mins, then i’ll beat you up, then I put you through a table, and this happens generally for 10 mins’

There’s some places that’ll rehearse/script bits and some that won’t, and it’s incredibly competitive in the way all sports are.

You might be interested to know there’s a lot of improv in pro-wrestling… often the broad strokes and key story telling points are laid out for the wrestlers, but how to get from A -> B -> C isn’t. And that assuming nothing goes wrong/has to change mid match.

Yeah I know a gist, I guess I don’t want to explore further because 1) WWE seem awful and 2) wrestling fans I’ve known have a weird fanaticism about them I’ve not encountered in many other pastimes and it scares me a bit

They talk during holds etc. And plan it on the fly, basically.

Not for mania etc. But in indies and house shoes they’ll just do it as they go

The best won’t even talk.

YOU KNOW THEY SAY ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. BUT YOU LOOK AT ME AND YOU LOOK AT SOMOA JOE AND YOU CAN SEE THAT STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE! SEE NORMALLY IF YOU GO 1 ON 1 WITH ANOTHER WRESTLER YOU GOT A 50/50 CHANCE OF WINNING! BUT I’M A GENETIC FREAK AND I’M NOT NORMAL! SO YOU GOT A 25% AT BEST AT BEAT ME! AND THEN YOU ADD KURT ANGLE TO THE MIX, YOU THE CHANCES OF WINNING DRASTIC GO DOWN! SEE THE 3 WAY AT SACRIFICE YOU GOT A 33 1/3 CHANCE OF WINNING. BUT I, I GOT A 66 2/3 CHANCE OF WINNING CAUSE KURT ANGLE KNOWS HE CAN’T BEAT ME AND HE’S NOT EVEN GONNA TRY! SO SOMOA JOE YOU TAKE YOUR 33 1/3 CHANCE MINUS MY 25% CHANCE AND YOU GOT 8 1/3 CHANCE OF WINNING AT SACRIFICE. BUT THEN YOU TAKE MY 75% CHANCE OF WINNING IF WE WAS TO GO 1 ON 1 AND THEN ADD 66 2/3 %. I GOT A 141 2/3 CHANCE OF WINNING AT SACRIFICE! SENIOR JOE?THE NUMBERS DON’T LIE AND THEY SPELL DISASTER FOR YOU AT SACRIFICE!

I’m not in any way shape or form doubting she isn’t an incredible woman and has fought some really shitty people and situations to get to where she is. She is deservedly a legit great

But in that final she showed a streak to her I don’t like and came across as really horrible and petty. That really soured some of her attitude for me and I struggle with that aspect now. Like funkman said it’s a small thing, but we all hold athletes to account for different things in different ways.

Also it’s super American and feels kinda phoney as as a brit all the hoorah and hype doesn’t sit well, makes me cringe

As an aside, is anyone watching the Tyson Fury thing on ITV? I was very prepared to loathe him (possibly even looking forward to it), but it’s an oddly compelling watch. He’s a complex and intriguing character.

File it alongside marvel as comic superheroes and wrestler personas are basically the same thing

All sports is so partisan. This list is padded out with more than a few TEAM GB no marks

he’s a very good showman and fighter, but he is unfortunately a racist, anti-semite and homophobe.

He’s got some nasty views that belong in the past but I think it’s impossible to remove that from his upbringing in a marginalised community. And he’s an incredibly charismatic bloke

Yeah but a lot of people here are British so it stands to reason people will have been exposed to these people more

You’ll be pleased to know that there’s been more than one with a superhero gimmick.

Hate all the lingo too, face and gimmick and work and shoot, it’s so cringeworthy, like we’re 30+ men not in a school playground
