Itāll only be the second worst opinion if someone votes for Dune.
Alan Smithee to finish top of the poll
Letās not forget Wild at Heart
Phantom Thread was near perfect for 2/3rds but did lose me a bit towards the end. Doesnt touch the Master imo.
90 mins is easily long enough, just depends on the specific story. Seen plenty of ācompleteā films that clocked in at 85 mins or so
Donāt hate that, Willem Dafoe giving it the big one is a treat.
Wild at Heart is good isnāt it? (not seen it for about 20 years)
Not really, no. I suppose if you find Nicolas Cage to be as hilarious as he is outrageous!!! then maybe.
Long films are more immersive isnāt it. and they stay with you longer Like the irishman was pretty average but benefited massively from its length
Bambi 70 Eyes of My Mother 76 Toy Story 81 Run Lola Run 81 The Killing 85
Etc etc
I like it when Harry Dean Stanton drives a car at night listening to Van Morrison (possible Iāve imagined this bit)
Long films can be very good, very bad or anywhere in between.
The same is true for short films. And also for medium length films
Iāve not seen a WA film yet but I will watch a film with lines like that.
i mean iām being facetious, Primer is the best film of all time and itās only like 45 mins long, I just get tired of people going on about ālong filmsā as if itās a new phenomenon when absolutely shitloads of classics are 3+ hours.
Yep. Persona is 84 minutes. Rashomon 88. Aguirre: The Wrath of God is 94.
Lets list some more film times
I find that when I love a film its length is ājust rightā
think the thing we need to focus on here is that the defining feature of the 1st and 2nd best directors of all time is⦠nicolas cage.
Yeah thats fair, while Iām a devotee of 2 hours and under that attitude still annoys me. If you can cope with a 2hr film is the extra 30 mins to make it ālongā really going to ruin it for you?
