are you purposely leaving out the most obvious NZ director?

No, those are just the first two I could think of.

EDIT: I’d also guess a more obvious one would be higher in the list?

Dogtooth is genuinely good, for a film, everyone should watch that.
Really want to see Killing of a Sacred Deer & The Favourite too. One day. Maybe.

Just realised you probably mean Peter Jackson. I guess I would be okay with him being placed here but TBH I don’t think much of his direction of LotR, King Kong or The Hobbit, I just think he is impressive to have pulled them off as a whole, so I don’t really think of him much in terms of being a great director.

Forgot about him, he would have made my list for sure

100% record so far for me, Alps is sorely underrated.

Looking an absolute snack in that photo, too.

Such a wonderful director, just don’t waste your time with ‘Kinetta’. Pretty amazing that he went from that to ‘Dogtooth’.

Find his films too cold and the way he makes his characters speak just pulls me out of them, can’t get invested.

Dogtooth is good tho

Something Wild is a great film… directed by Jonathan Demme
