Il Posto. It’s been maybe 10 years since I’ve seen it.

I have never seen this.
And after this thread I have about 50 films to get through at least :grinning:

did anyone vote for claude chabrol? he was on my list that I didn’t make

Dont think ive seen any of his but I do have La Ceremonie on my to watch list

Bresson’s the definition of style over substance for me. Spent so much time smoking weed and watching his films during my college years. Cringe.

This isn’t specific to Raging Bull though, it’s true of all 1.85:1 aspect ratio films basically, although I guess they didn’t often just remove the mattes for VHS and not care about booms.

Kubrick shot for both AFAIK, hence no set ratio for The Shining

He doesn’t really have a style though other than minimalism. I assume you’re taking the piss but if not you should give him another go.

Maybe it’s a Bresson/Besson joke

Can you confirm who you alluded to as the best British director of the last 40 years, btw?

this isn’t really in the right order though sorry

where should I start with this crowd?

Ah okay, I thought that was probably it but then I thought he’d retired like 20-odd years ago. Wikipedia tells me he’s still doing films.

I’ve seen Prospero’s Books at the cinema. I cannot really remember much about it except 16 year old me was fairly baffled.

his heyday was in the 80’s I guess but I still think his films are more innovative and exciting than anyone else from the UK working today
