Reckon I’m quite good at keeping things to a manageable level, currently just have 13 books I own but have yet to read, so that in theory will be easily cleared by the end of the year.

29!

he doesn’t post here anymore unfortunately

Goodreads tells me i have about 100

Incredible restraint over a two-four year period and you should have that down to nothing.

When the book hits your shelf like a novelty elf, that’s tsundoku!

i reckon i do and it’s why i’ve put myself on new book ban. it’s realistically gonna take me the rest of the year to finish everything i’ve stacked up so i’ll save a few $ at least. kindle makes it so easy to forget you own things :frowning:

Been reading a lot more non fiction really. Just about to start this;

same actually, does this mean we’re getting old? :older_man:

Read 69 of them. Nice

I have somewhere between 35-40 to read. I would like to cut that down to 10-20…however I like to at least have some backlog…when I start a new book it’s nice to have options, so I can pick based upon what I fancy reading at the time.

When you’re reading, how many books do you have on the go at once?

  • Just the 1
  • A couple
  • At least five
  • I lose count quite quickly
  • I have started ALL the books
  • Try to stick to one fiction, one non fiction…but there’s quite a lot of wiggle room within that (my personal preference)

I try to stick to one but you know it is. Best laid plans… “of mice and men” (Steinbeck)

A couple because i am doing this book club via podcast and also if I have to read a physical book I still need an ebook to read when I’m in bed or in queues etc.

Just the one. Occasionally I have two on the go. End up spending more time on one of the two, and feel like I’m cheating on the other/not giving it proper attention. Stresses me out, so trying to avoid it!

Dahl’s one of the finest short story writers in history, not just the writer of a fairly faultless canon of children’s literature. Would have been an issue if we’d picked David Walliams, I guess.

Ha ha, I remember that. One of the most baffling cameos of all time!

Bugger - wasn’t on the entire weekend and missed the Steinbeck vote. Cannery Row gets mine, just, over East of Eden.

Steinbeck my #1 by a long way.

Phew, finally caught up having been busy during the reveal of the top 5. Have no complaints about Atwood being number one, although I have only read “Hag-seed”. Mustn’t buy anything else at the moment though, I’ve got far too much of a backlog.

I’ve read 27 of the 100, which isn’t bad considering how many of those authors don’t exist.

This was my top 20:

  1. Magnus Mills
  2. Michael Chabon
  3. Iain Banks
  4. Roddy Doyle
  5. Douglas Coupland
  6. Haruki Murikami
  7. Scarlett Thomas
  8. Roald Dahl
  9. Chuck Palahniuk
  10. Irvine Welsh
  11. Dan Rhodes
  12. Benjamin Myers
  13. J.B. Morrison/Jim Bob
  14. Elmore Leonard
  15. Jeremy Dyson
  16. Emily St. John Mandel
  17. Viv Albertine
  18. Oyinkan Braithwaite
  19. Amor Towels
  20. Jonas Jonasson
