So here we are, after a clatter of metaphorical wickets on the coaching, and administration side, a shuffling of the deck chairs on the batting deck and a brave / foolish / necessary “resting” or retiring of the most successful new ball partnership we’ve ever had, a new dawn, learning from the one day renaissance. Except Root is still captain.
Obviously the Windies are not Australia, and something had to be done, but there’s more than a few eyebrow raisers here, probably enough to make it legitimate to wonder if we’ll manage to win a test.
There’s 4 bowlers in the series who average under 30. None of them are English. 2 of our 3 experienced seamers have recent fitness issues, and the 3rd only really doesn’t as we barely let him play cricket for the last 18 months.
A lot of the batsmen thrown in at the deep end for the nightmare in Oz are back out again, some fairly, some not really.
But we’ve picked an actual wicket keeper.
So who is hopeful that this is the start of a march towards the top of the yes rankings? Who thinks it’s going to be a shambles and we’ll be doing this all again in a year? Who is going to be first to jinx an English batter as they get into the 30s?
To add to all the woes above, it’s on bloody talk sport rather than tms
Oh and BtSport as well… I’m never getting a subs to that ever again. Total rip off and they made it so hard for me to leave last time.
Big series for plenty of these guys - pretty much everyone outside of Stokes and maybe Woakes in fact. Would probably have preferred to see Mahmood in over Overton (and under Dunne) but otherwise it’s more or less as the chosen squad dictates.
Yep. Talksport have never got close to replicating TMS, can’t afford Sky and BT so have to stick with Sky, very annoying when BT keep snapping up the rights to overseas tests.
Harmison reverting to pitch chat after one ball
Bishop equating Shane Warne dying to the war in Ukraine.
Some genuinely heinous mockers from Pearcey here
can’t believe the openers below burns and hameed in the pecking order are a bit shit
“So. We wont play our two biggest name bowlers. We’ve made sure it’s only watchable on a channel no one has. We’ve taken the rights from the beloved tms programme so that causal listeners have to hunt for it… before I call this meeting to a close, is there anything else we can do to reduce engagement with this test series?”
Is there anything to be said for having another reset?
regular ads for cremation in between the action?
40 individual innings and counting since an England opener made a century. 19 single figure scores in there, 9 of them ducks.
Can’t wait to get home in a couple of hours to watch this… just as we lose our 5th wicket for 85
Forgotten how fucking annoying following our test team is.
Root is now top scorer for England this series and I’m trying to find a bookmaker who’ll let me bet on that never changing
Loose drive at one that wasn’t really there for it is it Zak?
Would still take this bet
Still get a few wildly over-optimistic fans after all this time
Good to see Root displaying such commitment to getting out, having failed the first time.
