Before reading the comments I’d completely forgotten about it being used in Father Ted
There’s an interview with the winner tomorrow, which doesn’t narrow it down much based on the remaining favourites, but at least indicates they’re not dead.
Yeah, I saw that and they’ve basically confirmed it won’t be Crazy or Don’t Look Back In Anger as well
On reflection Oasis were more an albums band. Although DLBIA got to number 1, it wasn’t really a “moment” like many choices here.
Huge error this.
Does anyone know where the Ghost Town video was shot? It doesn’t look like Coventry.
London isn’t it?
Can’t recall exactly but I think most of it is around the East End and docklands areas.
Yes you’re probably right. Bits of it looked like Brum but I couldn’t really place it.
The opening shots are of the Barbican and City of London buildings, then it seems to head out further east and Docklands area.
Thanks. I thought it looked a little bit like Birmingham but couldn’t place any buildings and then the water threw me.
Who’s Number 1 then folks?
Police Pink Floyd Pet Shop Boys
Reckon it’s a P for sure.
Hmmn, I wonder if that’s influenced the final placing, based on celebrity status, availability, and general ability to give good interviews about pop music (Neil Tennant). He was working for Smash Hits during a golden era for pop singles.
I think a couple of the Guardian writers just genuinely love PSB tbh. I don’t think West End Girls would be too surprising anyway.
I hadn’t picked up on this being collated by just 3 writers, bound to be a few big omissions based on such a small sample of tastes.
Yeah, I’m hoping someone will organise a big DIS vote/survey so we can create the definitive top 100.
It’ll be PSB I reckon.
No room for Brimful of Asha? Bit surprising.
Yes, you’re right.
Feels a bit like it’s over now which is a shame, the discussion, serious and jokey in this thread has been great.
Although I’m still holding out super vague hope for White Town
We need a “Best No. 2 Singles” DiS thread or in here.
Can’t see it happening and as some have suggested it doesn’t hold up well now. Cool record though.
