Love them or hate them, The Hives are about to release their 6th album and we didn’t have a thread.
They are also going on tour with the Arctic Monkeys so here it is.
Good video for their comeback track too…

Do you ever have thoughts like “I got to see [band I love] live but somehow I’ve seen [other band] twice”?
Anyway, I’ve seen The Hives twice - once at Cardiff Uni Great Hall and once at Reading 2002. I have slight hearing loss in one ear because of the bloody Hives (but also because I was drunk and dancing in front of the speakers whilst their tinny racket played).
Feels like The Hives should have way more than 5 albums out at this point. It’s not like they’re holed away in a Stockholm studio Kevin Shieldsing this shit for years at a time
legal battles though innit
Oh, yikes. Haven’t seen that amount of money go towards Cardigans since….something something Belle and Sebastian gig something
Playing the Fleece in Bristol on 30/05 (day after they support Arctic Monkeys at Ashton Gate)
Always feel like I should like them more but their music just does nothing for me. Did like the utter confusion on people’s faces at 2.07 in this
I’m going to the Ashton Gate gig primarily because of The Hives. I like Arctic Monkeys a lot but still think they’d work better in smaller venues.
Guess I’m seeing The Hives two days running. Funnily enough, the Fleece is also the first place I saw them, on the bottom of a three band bill.
Never knew that. This has made me pretty sad.
Will always have a soft spot for this band and I’m glad they’re still around – the Monkeys support slot will likely get them a lot of younger fans. Their commitment to putting on A Great Show, a consistent look and miraculously not ageing is to be admired.
My bus ride to school was exactly half an hour which meant a lot of listening to Veni Vidi Vicious and Tyrannosaurus Hives to pass the time. Just the right mix of catchy, energetic and gleefully taking the piss when so much garage-rock took itself too seriously.
Lost interest a bit after The Black and White Album (what the fuck was this) but if I had the chance to see them live I’d go without thinking.
New song sounds good and I like that they’re keeping up the Randy Fitzsimmons lore.
I’m pretty sure that sound is taken from “Threads”
yeah I think they did a like for like, they got to use that sound in exchange for future DVD releases of Threads to have ‘Die Alright!’ play over the end credits
there’s a lot more to it than that short article gives space for - it’s a really interesting story of rock and roll excess and bad book keeping and loads more artists were involved than just Hives & Cardigans - even Europe!
There’s been a book or two written about it and I think a documentary was planned but neither the Hives nor the Cardigans want to go on record
Also, pretty brave of the Arctic Monkeys to take such an absolutely kick arse live band on the road as their support
Remember when WWE used ‘Tick Tick Boom’ for iirc a Summerslam theme song?
I love The Hives btw, think they’re a bit like the Futureheads in that they’re massively underrated largely cuz they’re seen as one his wonders
Remember when they used Walk Idiot Walk for the Divas Search introductions one year and nobody batted an eyelid?
