The Inbetweeners

Surprisingly holds up pretty well. A lot funnier than I remember, outside of all the memed jokes, theres some good gags in it

Think Simon is the best character by some distance

The most “represented” my lived experience has been on TV in my opinion

If you can imagine a middle ground between this and Ladhood, pretty much bang on for me

Think it holds up until 2nd film.

Might rewatch that, not seen it since it came out

I don’t think you should

Saw the one yesterday where Simons family spot him practicing modelling so he walks out onto the shed roof and just crosses his legs. Spot on

Friends!

This is an entire thread in itself - one that I don’t even think has been done yet

Rewatched it fairly recently and thought it held up really well too. Some properly hilarious episodes.

Ladhood is really underrated.

I rewatched it last week for the first time in about five years across two evenings… hilarious. Really solid casting.

The guy who plays Simon’s dad is mint, love him in 15 Storeys High and Phoneshop too

Yeah Inbetweeners is a classic and a great representation of teenage friendships. It gets a bit unfairly classed as mid 2000s edgelord humour (which it is is a bit tbf) but there’s more nuance there than it gets credit for.

I watched Derry Girls for the first time very recently (thought it was excellent) and was struck with how similar it was to inbetweeners right down to each of the characters being similar.

I liked Derry Girls but never finished it, it seemed to run out of steam quite quickly

I think more than anything this just so accurately represents suburban teenage male friendships in a way I’d never seen before: all different personalities and home lives all sort of clicking together while they try to navigate life and figuring out who they are.

I don’t know why TV had failed to be able to articulate this so poorly before this show because it seems like such a universal experience in the UK in particular.

Don’t think it’s that good but I get it

one of my favourite bits is when neal and simon get left together at the pub in one episode and they have literally nothing to say to each other. it’s full of fantastic subtleties like that.

i am a huge fan and have thought for years that it is the closest to what my teenage years were like growing up in the home counties.
