Lad I know literally just messaged me to lol at them saying the MOV press was from CD masters. He has both and says MOV is way better and also Cedric tore into him online when he mentioned the MOV of Amputechture

Maybe it’s not so much the quality of MOV pressings that made them freak out, but rather if those were available they wouldn’t be able to slap a £400 price on a box set.

FWIW i bought it on 2LP from Gold Standard Labs when it came out, and it was so warped that it sounded like it was being played through a vibrato pedal. I told them about it and they sent me replacement discs that were much less warped but still warped. I think maybe the whole batch was a bit fucked.

what did blake even do apart from play like 3 shows before getting fired? good drummer on his own though. i like pridgen on the material they wrote with him but he regularly murdered songs from the other records.

blake was only on the Cictriz demo I think and a manual dexterity. But he apparently wrote a few of the bits, they just had Jon play them - like half of frances and stuff from amp

pridgen is a fucking great drummer, but yeah overplayed the early stuff… kind of shows what having styles of drummers do to bands for good/bad

i’d guess deantoni would be most likely but they hinted it would be new people. i’d love to see jon back with them but they did pretty much cuss him out in the press and call him lazy, etc. so seems unlikely. nice move, dickheads.

Love how I woke up to a “Mars Volta are back” thread and 40 new posts in the HGATR yesterday, and the end result seems to be a $479 boxset of existing material and the end of the band. Perfect.

I tried to work up a more positive, Deloused-based take on Omar’s comments, but I’m fearing the boxset/end worst.

Great post in the TMV HGATR thread btw. Making the lazy assumption that the thread might end up with plenty of comments along the lines of ‘It’s just… music for people who…’, I did a lot of scanning and not much reading, but your post stood out fortunately!

Thanks! Your assumption is pretty correct, lots of negative talk dismissing them as pretentious wanking.
But there were a few fans in there, and a few people tried some later material they hadn’t heard before and liked it a lot and changed their minds about them.

Always interesting which artists get the “don’t really like them but clearly talented and a 5/5” treatment and which ones get the “shit 1/5” treatment.
