Still would probably be my least favourite but as a quick pallette cleanser after SWB which to me anyway seemed to deal with some heavy topics it would have been decent and some of the duets are really nice. 42 minutes which is significantly shorter than anything post High Violet.

Got The National by The National on, keep thinking the fella on the cover is Neil Hannon (he is in fact Bryan Devendorf from The National) and getting The National Express forever associated with these The National songs.

Rylan on record is weaker than the version they did in sessions in years previous. All the fiddling with additions to the sound, the echo added in the drums… I loved the two session previews of it years before where the guitar motif is at the forefront with a really simple sunny Californian surfer twang to it.
Though I love the way he changed one of the lyrics to ‘underwater, youre almost free’

Fair, even though I was aware of it being an older song I don’t think I heard a recorded version until this album and I think it’s stunning and I properly cried last summer seeing it live lol
What annoyed me was that they debuted it along with I Need My Girl. I love Rylan, and INMG bores me to tears, so the fact that the latter got worked up first and became such a big thing for them was a bit of a parting of the ways for me and The National.

I reckon that the new song should, and would’ve in the high violet era, end at 3.18ish. Why it is another 2 mins is beyond me.
