And one a bit more English:

Lisa Knapp and Gerry Diver - Hinterland

Junk Drawer - Days of Heaven

Good blend of indie rock, psych, post-punk and a little bit of Americana

Movement81 - If infinity,

This would be my top dance/electronica nomination. Swansea duo Jason and Becky with this debut album of… well it’s a bit of a mix of styles, but minimalist techno feels like the dominant theme for me, quite 90s influenced too. Has an insistence to it that keeps pulling me in.

Belfast based folk singer. Trad enough to appeal to folk fans, experimental enough to offer something for wider tastes. Hands down the best folk album I’ve heard in years, not a weak track on it.

Gnod + MC Sissi – Inner Fucking Peace

For a description I’ll quote myself when I was 2024 AOTY deliberating

Maybe my favourite album title of the year. Noise rock band Gnod now down to a duo and going experimental electronica in this collaboration with Portuguese vocalist (and now wife of Gnod’s Chris Haslam) MC Sissi. Love the creeping intensity of Reprise, and the overall variations around a theme on this album.

Jessica Winter - My First Album

Released on 11th July 2025 so just sneaking into the qualifying period. Can’t get enough of this album, weirdo electropop at its best.

Shanti Celeste - Romance

Sherelle - With A Vengeance

Kelly Lee Owens - Dreamstate

UNIVERSITY - McCartney, It’ll Be Ok

You better believe I’m gonna nominate my own record. Who do you think I am, someone with class and tact?

Adventsong - Verdancy

Upbeat, sunny and shiny electronica, with a mix of new age, lo-fi, bubbly ambient and expansive ambient techno

And while we’re here, an actual proper record from a proper artist

Dawnwalker - The Unknowing

DW at their most melodic and accomplished. Progressive / post-metal goodness, with haunting depths, sparkling and soaring highs, and some total bangers to boot

Must have missed this in the new release thread but this is fantastic!

YOUNG KNIVES - LANDFILL
Oxford, UK // 24th January 2025

Expand your mind and embrace the transience of all things with this rattlebag sixth album from the Dartnall brothers.

Standout track: Ugly House

HENGE - JOURNEY TO VOLTUS B
Manchester, UK // 31st January 2025

Board a spaceship bound for the distant Earthlike planet Voltus B! The journey is long, but nothing passes the time like a rollicking sci-fi rave.

Standout track: Slingshot

PIT PONY - DEAD STARS
Newcastle upon Tyne, UK // 7th February 2025

A fuzzy, punky album that comes at you with its teeth bared. If it doesn’t make you flinch, it may just make you swoon instead.

Standout track: At Dawn

Work, Money, Death - People of the Fast Flowing River

Arguably the greatest spiritual jazz band of the decade continue to get better with each release. It’s not often that a jazz release gets three times as many votes as the second top album in the weekly release poll on here, but it happened the week of 29th November 2024 with this record, which ā€œreally brightened up a hungover winters morningā€ (@badmanreturns) . The legacy of Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders shines brightly through this album

Just listened to Gideon Coe on catchup and he played a track from this. It was great and I’m going all in.

Abduction - Existentialismus

February 21st 2025

Fifth full length from Derby’s premier black metal band. Fires out of the gate with the furious Legacy of Sores and never really lets up through its entire 45 minutes, melodic riffs, swirling atmospherics, pummelling drums. Although there are some moments of relative calm, with even some clean vocals later in the album! Seeing it performed live at Fortress Fest a few months ago was a highlight of the weekend!

Lowen - Do Not Go To War With The Demons Of Mazandaran

October 4th 2024

Progressive doom from London with a distinct Middle Eastern flavour thanks to vocalist Nina Saeidi’s amazing voice. One of my favourites of 2024.

Melodic elements of post-rock, psych and kosmische manifest in a widescreen electronic world. Electronic Sound magazine said ā€œThe Yellow Knife feels like lightning flashing through fogā€¦ā€ and ā€œit demands to be heard as a whole and rewards repeated listeningā€. They also called Constant Little Ghost ā€œa master of musical storytellingā€ and included the artist in their 2025 list of favourite grassroots musicians.

Unsigned and working solo, ā€œThe Yellow Knifeā€ was written, performed, produced, recorded by Constant Little Ghost at home and released in October 2024
