The Nevermets

Started this today, already fascinated with every aspect of it. It’s channel 4’s attempt at 90 Day Fiancé I guess. It follows various brits who have been involved in long term, long distance relationships without ever having met the other person in real life as they prepare to meet them for the first time.

There’s a shy 17 year old guy who’s been in a relation with a 26 year old woman from Kerala, India for a few years. He lied about his age to begin with and she fell in love with how he wrote his Game of Thrones roleplays.

Also featured is a 38 year old woman involved with a 27 year old Philippino guy. She feels like her time to become a mum is rapidly running out and is pinning all her hopes on this relationship working out.

More couples are to be introduced as the series goes on, but I’m hooked already.

Surprised at how seemingly fine the young fella’s parents were with him going all the way to India on his own

Yeah we were wondering if that was because he’s got the camera and production crew with him so it’s like an extra layer of safeguarding

So uncomfortable watching them basically try to have a ceremony the second he walked through the door and when V encouraged him to say “bye, BIL!” :grimacing:

With Sarah, I reckon she just likes the fantasy of being in love but doesn’t actually want to risk being in a relationship, hence the LDR worked for her even though he was clearly a horny lil creep throughout

Yeah, she seemed very unhappy in general and then the culture shock and him being greasy didn’t help at all. Fair play to her being bold enough to look for a hotel.

This is good

And also incredibly triggering, as an LDR specialist

I would normally avoid a programme like this at all costs but caught it the other night and found it quite compelling. I do think that the Dubai relationship is inauthentic/staged and isn’t forming a relationship with a 15 year old when you’re in your 20s technically grooming?

Oh episode 3 is up for streaming now

Episode 9 GIF by South Park

Dubai relationship is the least interesting as they both seem a bit shit. Her focus on how rich he is and him clearly just mugging her off all the time, dunno, just what’s the point. Neither of them seem very nice or interesting characters.

Veena giving me the creeps hardcore, ngl

Leave that little boy alone

Wild how this would be received if the genders were switched.

Bit disappointed but not surprised that all three relationships featured in the first two episodes are problematic AF, and the fourth we’re introduced to seems to be the same.

I’ll still watch cos it’s good

Like could they not find one couple where you’re like ‘aw this seems sweet, they seem made for each other!’

Veering on ‘look at these pathetic fools’ territory

I’ll still watch

There’s someone in another forum claiming to be a mate of Sarah’s and that all her bits are “fake and scripted” which seems like a stretch but I would like to believe

“I’m really impressed with how my daughter is getting on with my girlfriend.”

Yeah, cus they’re peers ffs

This program makes me cringe so hard my mass density has reached black hole levels.

Obviously I love it.
