Great, more opinions out of Manchester

i have a lot of #opinions about that colour scheme

its quite nice how they’ve used a font colour that makes it hard to read

I would read this paper.

can you sum them up in less than two words

My main takeaway from the new website is that the background pink colour for the opinion section is very pleasant. Literally easy on the eyes.

not great

Everyone’s talking about the Guardian ‘going tabloid’. Is this just referring to the physical size of the newspaper, or does it refer to the editorial style also?

they’re copying the Standard AND the FT?

Just the physical size.

They were using the unusual (for the UK Berliner size before eh?

They were. I actually quite liked it - apparently tabloid is cheaper though?

where has the blind date bit gone?

Yeah, because the Berliner press was a one-off. Going tabloid means that they can use the Trinity Mirror presses, and it can be printed and distributed locally.

I hate broadsheet size newspapers. Pick up a discarded Telegraph—how else would you get one?—and it’s a horrific experience.

Berliner was nice. Loved the weekend editions when it was nice and thick (woah)

Tabloid is ok too

thanks for reading

Yeah, tabloid just means it’s 17 x 11 in size.

My sister used to work at the Guardian and they did a launch party thing when the format changed last time. Always remember queuing up to get in to the venue and some guy had forgotten his invite. He was saying to the doorman “Don’t you know who I am? I designed the new custom typeface”. Doorman was all “

This whole bit looks terrible. Really hard to distinguish one section from the next. And what are those four lines about

Guess it’s meant to be a kind of nod to the pages in a printed paper? Looks weird though. Noticed it on the mobile app this morning.

It is better than the previous one though, with the late 2000s allinonecaseandrolledtogether.
