Also, also: this seems to sum up the past week’s stuff pretty well:

Almost feel sorry for them if Gove’s the best they think they’ve got

I’m quite enjoying the Tory party not understanding the nature of it’s own division. Having the pro and anti brexit groups calling for the sacking of the figureheads for the otherside is just as destabilizing as calling for May’s sacking. Each side thinks they can influence her to get an edge over their internal opposition and rationally it should lead to stalemate, but instead they’re creating chaos and the first significant drop in Tory support since the initial turmoil of the election.

As we’ve said a million times, if the stakes weren’t so high this would almost be exquisite.

On which note, Johnson seems to have finally realised how bad a pickle he’s got himself into in the last few weeks.

I’m a big fan of these ‘whatsapp’ conversations that are definitely not deliberately staged for the credulous press…

Wasn’t it Johnson last time as well?

Numerous times.

Ah - so HE was behind ActivateUK

Yep,

By being seen as the figureheads of remain and leave in the cabinet, Hammond and Johnson both currently appear to be unsackable, as to get rid of one of them would be seen as a victory for the other. So I suspect we will continue with this charade for quite a bit longer, which as you say, would be hilarious if it were not for the ticking Brexit clock.
