this is neither here nor there but salman rushdie is the one who invented “bubblelicious” for aero bars when he was a copywriter.

And “naughty but nice” for another confectionery product (allegedly)*.

Worth clearing up also that Murray Walker did not invent the slogan “A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play”, as is often claimed.

*I dispute these because it is difficult for a specific (presumably low level) advertising copywriter to claim sole credit for taglines, slogans etc. owing to the team based nature of their work.

I feel bad for lots of people involved in this. Seems like Rushdie’s love for the idea of the writer as noble outspoken critic blinded him to hurting many people. I still believe that as all humans are imperfect, we should all seek to find forgiveness so I will say that condemning him to death is definitely wrong.

Margaret Thatcher invented the potato waffle.

Tonty Blair invented the pop-up tent

There’s a difference between people being apoplectic and murdering though. I don’t think people would be suggesting murdering the publishers of the book. There would be protests online sure and maybe in person outside book stores or the publishers but I can’t imagine anything stronger than that, so I’m not sure the comparison works?

Also, why does it need to be put into “modern terms”? On your link it says $600,000 was raised to add to the fatwa against him in 2016. That’s pretty modern?

No, Mr Whippy invented the potato waffle

I think you’ll find Mr Whippy invented Watermelon Chips. It’s where his name came from - it’s short for Watermelon Chippy.

i don’t think comparisons with charlie hebdo work tbh
