Revolver is obviously the best one. Dunno how Sgt Pepper managed to get by for so many years pretending it was the best

this is my favourite beatles album

That’s a fair point. I hadn’t actually heard much of the Beatles until I was about 16, none of my family were into them so it was a very deliberate decision for me to seek their stuff out and listen to it.

feels like Sgt Pepper tied in with the excess of Britpop and all that whereas Revolver tied in better with the more stripped back indie rock of the 00s and so opinion naturally changed in its favour? dunno probably talking shite.

Sgt Pepper is pretty good though, some people get a weird about it but it’s definitely a strong album. obviously not the best though.

I’d never thought about it like that but it makes sense to me. Sgt Peppers is a great album but yeah it’s not even the best Beatles album never mind one of the best albums ever

So I think at this point we’ve concluded that The Best of the Beatles > Siamese Dream = In Utero = Mellon Collie > BadMotorFinger = Ten/Vs/Vitalogy > Superunknown = Nevermind > Gish > Bleach > Alice in Creed

I think people should explore ‘legacy/classic’ bands to enough of an extent so they come across as knowing what they’re talking about when it comes to music.

This is not some passive/aggressive snipe by the way, it’s just genuinely my opinion. I remember laying into Shakespeare when I was younger, saying he was shite but it was uninformed pish. Having now explored a wee bit more, I can conclude that I understand/appreciate/respect his talent but that I’m unlikely to pull out one of his plays for some light reading.

I’m not exploring Abba. I know I don’t like them.

Take a chance on them

Not even a #hotopinion, Voulez-Vouz and The Visitors are two all-time great albums and would rank just behind The Best of the Beatles on the list above

I’m fully on board with ABBA these days, Voulez-Vous gets me awkwardly moving every time

Thinking about it this is ridiculous. Why should anyone have to explore legacy/classic bands? Have you explored every such band?

I just think if you’re a music obsessive it’s worth investigating the past.

To those I would add ABBA the Album, and Super Trouper. Some of the earlier albums are pretty lightweight fluff. Arrival is the first album of theirs that I think is worth taking seriously.

Agreed but there is literally no point in me exploring some classic/legacy bands as i know I won’t like them.

What the fuck happened to this thread?

I almost posted this exact sentence earlier in regards to Nevermind, but held off only because it does a slight disservice to the excellent album sequencing of the original run. It’s true though!
