Basically just Zero Parades. Oh and Star Wars Outlaws. I’ve heard that the Switch 2 can run the latter pretty well so the Deck should have no trouble, correct?
Plays with minimal faffing according to this, although still a bit buggy although that’s not steam deck specific.
That’s not a bad site for getting a general idea of how games if you can discount the fanboy-y stuff. They are generally pretty honest about performance.
Protondb.com is also good for checking games: https://www.protondb.com/app/2863680. People will often provide settings that helped with performance on there.

I was tempted by a Steam Machine until I saw the price… I’m aware it’s possible to build a PC for less money but I absolutely completely don’t want to build a PC 
Yeah the machine price is just too crazy to possibly recommend. The steam deck price is painful enough now.
I’m fairly sure the Switch 2 is a bit more powerful than the Deck, especially when docked. But more importantly S2 has an nVidia graphics chip and a custom DLSS model, neither of which are true of Deck.
Tbh reading through the websites linked above it seems like I’d spend half my time in options menus tinkering with graphics settings if I tried to play current gen open world games on the Deck. I’ve sunk hundreds and hundreds of hours into my OG Switch so I think at the end of the day the Switch 2 may actually be the better purchase for me personally…
No idea when they’ll come back into availability or how much the price will increase when they do, but I heartily recommend getting a refurb unit. I got one and it was immaculate. It cost £250 with the lowest SSD capacity, then I got a 1TB drive for £40 from Aliexpress and installed it myself no problem.

Oh I missed the edit. @sweetverbs has covered it though. More modern tech in there, so performance is definitely better. Steam deck’s strength is its library.
I also have a Steam library of a grand total of one game (Cities Skylines)
I don’t think it’s quite as bad as it sounds. Most of the time games are verified and play fine with absolutely zero tweaking. I wasn’t a PC gamer before getting my first Deck in 2021 and since then I’ve built a PC and become a proper dork about it, but only because I really enjoy it.

A lot of games you can just load it up and play, or make a couple of small adjustments and then never think about it again. It’s mostly older stuff that needs a bit of work to get going, and even then it’s never been too difficult IME.
Has anyone had an issue with the B button? Mine has just stopped working, and tried a few things via iFixIt without opening it up but seems I might have to get the case opened up.
No, but I’ve had my d-pad get stuck on 3 different Steam Decks. Had to RMA all of them. It’s really dampened my enthusiasm for playing my current one as I’m just waiting for it to happen again!
My whatever the top left button is stopped working a while ago. Annoyingly it’s like it’s constantly depressed so that causes some further issues. Everything I’ve seen basically says take it apart and use some isopropyl alcohol and that’ll sort it out (even a little bit of dirt/grit can interfere with the inputs and their casings), but I’m not very confident about putting everything back together again! As a longterm/temporary fix I just enable the back buttons on every game and use them, but think that might be a weird substitute for the b button!
Another odd thing that’s happened is the Steam button has turned into the screen reader button! But when I check out the inputs they’re all as they should be, so I have to hold the power button to be able to get to my library with the touchscreen if I’m in a game and can’t exit easily!
