I remember thinking about a year before it was announced ‘Boy, wouldn’t it be incredible if there was a Switch for PC games’ and then they announced this, so yeah.
I can’t really afford it tbh, but I’d be too sad not to get it now.

Alright mates
Won’t be home until late so not gonna get a go until tomorrow.
Have bought Master Chief Collection for first game to play but tempted to just compelte HL2 again. Will probably get Elden Ring too.
Had mine a few weeks, I say mine it was a late Christmas present that became a birthday present for my eldest. So I’ve not managed to play it that much, he loves it.
First thing you notice is it’s BIG, but button placement is spot on. Feels much nicer to play than a Switch. Any games I’ve got on both are much better on steam deck. Most of my games have run perfectly. Games that it said might have issues have also been perfect. Not had chance to try any retro games yet but the emulators are already in the Linux menus!
The bad points, the battery is a bit crap. You get 3-4 hours on average. The fan can be a bit loud but headphones fix that.
I’ve not played it anywhere near as much as I would have liked but I would say it’s the best handheld game machine I’ve ever used. (And I had a game gear)
Reader, I did not get an email
Fuck me this is a unit. So so comfortable in the hand though.
Really really early impressions based on turning it on last night and putting things on to download, and then a quick blast on Halo and HL2 this morning
It feels so comfortable in the hand, but the natural hold style feels quite different to a controller or the Switch and will take some getting used to. The layout of the L1, L2, R1, R2 definitely doesn’t feel quite aligned with how the shape of the machine has you rest your fingers. But the fingers do sit very naturally on L4L5 and R4R5. My fingers don’t hit L4L5 very well though, basically never use those two fingers for anything in my life, so they’re weak and useless.
Haven’t had time to set up the trackpad so it feels very stuttery to me, but keen to get it fine tuned. Motion aiming felt quite good for refining aiming in HL2.
Typing isn’t as good as Switch or even PS5 trackpad. Because it’s so heavy you need to set down the console to type which feels a bit unintuitive. Again nailing the trackpad might remedy this.
Its absolutely massive and in all honesty isn’t that portable. Not an issue for me at all though as this is more for me to have comfortable access to PC games than anything to take around with me. Will be great for sofa play.
Quite weird having a machine that is so console like in form and OS then having to do so much fiddling with settings. I’ve never been a PC gamer before so this should all come to me in time but takes a bit of getting used to. My friend who’s much more plugged in than me also got one yesterday so he’s gonna do a sit down with me and help me get the most out of it
Playing Halo and HL2 on a portable feels mad. Just can’t quite get my head around it. Can’t wait to get Elden Ring on this.
Personally i like the indie games more than fps’s and so fat the steamdeck has been absolutely perfect. I haven’t had to change a thing.
Spent the last couple of hours setting up emulation. it’s a bit of a faf copying files across and setting up but seems to run everything up to Ps2 perfectly.
Just got my email! Although I’ve just tried to pay with both card and PayPal and it’s failed multiple times… ![]()
accidentally pre-ordered for the UK queue like a muppet. if I’d done EU then I’d have it by now ![]()
I’m now blocked from making payments because I tried too many times. Why do I want to buy hardware from this company, again?
(As previously discussed, it’s so I can play Sekiro on the toilet.)
don’t @ me
Halo feels really good and snappy.
Woke up this morning thinking this was going to get delivered today, but just got an email that it’s been delayed until Monday. ![]()
OH BOO BOO. THAT MUST BE VERY HARD FOR YOU.
current ETA for me is July. I’m not bitter. You’re bitter.
Remind me when you got your purchase through?
Something like 10 hours after it opened, despite trying from the actual second the pre-orders went live.
Obvs I’ve immediately massively freaked myself out reading about people’s orders getting stolen & having to go to the back of the queue… ![]()
Can always just get a very sensibly priced one from eBay
