Looks like March 08, Dec 09, Oct 10, Aug 11, Dec 12, Dec 13 and once at T in the Park for me

Looking forward to seeing them again tonight - will be 5th time. Seen them at the Brudenell before, Gorilla in Manchester, supporting The Cure in Manchester and Mogwai in Leeds.

Been umming and ahhing for the last week or so over driving up tonight as its not sold out but I’ve woken up this morning feeling ill so I’m out. Enjoy

This is very much my memory of him - they were still ace though.

Hope that after this tour they’re able to rest, pause and vary up the setlist. Past two times I’ve seen them they dropped in a NOCEK track and it was unexpected/great. Nil is so good live, I’d love to see them do that again. Plus there’s Dead City, Alphabet, etc…

yeah i still loved it

they didn’t have a keyboard player yet so Rod from Idlewild played keys for half their set

chatted to the original bassist at the merch stand after and he was lovely, i was disappointed they’d sold out of the album but he gave me a slightly battered 7" for free cos he didn’t have enough change

didn’t see them for ages after that, they didn’t make it back to Ireland til the 3rd album tour in 2013 (i remember James saying “sorry we haven’t been here in so long, we didn’t think anybody liked us”) but i’ve managed to see them once per tour since, and caught them doing the debut in full in London in 2014 as well which was lovely

Think it’s sold out now so your decision’s backed up.

Hope we get The Wrong Car in London. One of my all time favourite songs - there were about two years of my life where I listened to it almost every day.

The band have had to cancel their show tonight in Madrid because the venue was a building site! Have never heard of anything like this before. Unbelievable. (Not there for it or anything but just feel for them as they aren’t the sort of level to just absorb the loss).

Saw this last night and was wondering whether they’d be in a position to have some kind of contract where they’d still get paid due to it being extremely unsafe?

Even on top of that, they’re the type of band that would be extremely gutted to cancel any show for any reason.

It sounds like a nightmare. My best guess is that if the venue say it’s okay to play, and the artist chooses not to, then it would be the artist in breach of the arrangement. If the venue refuse to provide compensation to the artist, then I suppose the artists would need to take it through the courts… which probably isn’t possible for The Twilight Sad or most other bands of that size.

I do wonder what happens with the money accrued from tickets. Hopefully the fans are able to get refunds but again, that sounds like a nightmare.

Aye, I think you’re right, they’ll probably have to take the hit. Same way if they had to pull out due to illness or something like that, fans get a refund (if not rescheduled), promoter doesn’t have to pay the band? :man_shrugging:t2:

Was there from the UK. Didn’t look promising when we walked past the venue in the early afternoon- entrance was a bit of a construction site. To be fair they had cleared it into a skip by evening but obviously didn’t get sight of inside.
Anyway, moved onto my ”second home” Barcelona - there won’t be any such shenanigans in the Republic of Catalunya  tonight. The band’s first headline gig in Barcelona for over 4.5 years.
As an aside - Fontaines D.C. are due to play the same venue in Madrid tomorrow :worried:

Ooft, I don’t think I can remember every time I’ve seen them.

First time for sure was a surprise blow-me-away set at Fat Sams supporting Idlewild in 2007, which was simply stunning. Bought the album that night I think. Became obsessed on the car ride home.

My favorite gig of theirs probably was the Christmas gig they did in Sleazies a while back. Was just packed to the rafters with Mogwai/Hubby/Aidan Moffat lads

As far as I can tell…

  • Supporting Idlewild, late 2007
  • Sleazies, Dec 2009
  • Aberdeen Warehouse, April 2010
  • Aberdeen Tunnels. August 2011
  • Aberdeen Cafe Drumonds, November 2011 (this was moved to Tunnels I think)
  • Glasgow King Tuts, Dec 2013 (14 Autumns Tour)
  • Glasgow, Barrowlands March 2019
