Hillary didn’t really have either of these

Yeah neither of those statements holds up. More Bernie supporters voted for Hillary than Hillary supporters voted for Obama in 2009. Hillary’s own strategy was to mop up Republican voters alienated by Trump. This categorically didn’t happen - the Republican base overwhelmingly came out for the latter. He handily picked up the evangelical vote.

There are outliers in both cases obviously, but not statistically significant ones.

The tragic thing is Biden would be about as unpopular as this chump if not for everyone being blinded by the ‘Obama’s VP!’ thing

Think it’s both funny and alarming that we’ve collectively reached such a place where a nonsensical grifter like Marianne Williamson can still end up spouting better political takes than a bunch of mainstream candidates.

This is what Biden said following the shootings:

“We can’t fix a problem if we refuse to name it: white nationalism, An ideology emboldened by a president who stokes the flames of hatred and coddles white supremacists with messages of support. We must do what Trump won’t: condemn this evil and eradicate it from our society.”

Great, shame about his non-existent policies, his deluded belief he can work together with ‘moderate Republicans’ and his endless gaffes, usually involving invading women’s personal space and making crass comments to them, any of which would probably have doomed any other Democrat by now. The only reason why he’s not an also-ran already is because he was Obama’s VP and too many people think they can turn back the clock by choosing him.

Polls (following the second round debate)

Biden 32%
Sanders 18%
Warren 15%
Harris 10%
Buttigieg 6%

The Morning Consult poll was conducted among 2,419 registered voters who indicated they may vote in the Democratic primary or caucus in their state.

Sanders ahead of warren now? That’s surprising.

Saw that at least one remarkably gutless news publication is giving oxygen to Dayton shooter tweeting in support of Elizabeth Warren.

They are polling very close.

YouGov (who had Warren ahead of Sanders after the first debate) have not published their poll yet.

Trump sent thoughts and prayers to the wrong city! Be really shit if the democrat front runner did the same

This lad on the telly looks okay / able to process human empathy and decency

Probably a bad idea to make the whole thing hinge on race but with Trump it kind of has to do doesn’t it

Those numbers seem pretty horrific. Even as front runner Biden isn’t getting a 1/3 of support.

the way he messed up the other day wrt el paso should be a massive red flag that mentally he is not up to the task and is almost as far gone as donnie.

TBF to those numbers it feels like the other candidates are the ones who are failing to eclipse him? Or else we are simply seeing there are ~30% of Dems who are effectively toxic to the notion of progress etc. Gah.

It’s a direct result of having such a wide ranging field of candidates. Give the people a lot of choice, and they will choose however they see fit.

But also, bear in mind that a lack of popularity with Democrat Party voters doesn’t mean you can’t win the presidency. Obama in 2008 failed to win the popular vote in the Democratic Party presidential primaries - he needed the super delegates to get the nomination - but went on to become US president by a relatively large margin.

At this early stage, name recognition and proven experience in politics are the two key factors for each candidate’s popularity. The older generation of Biden, Sanders and Warren are clearly the beneficiaries of this.

For a young upstart is is extremely difficult, but not impossible, to break through. But it doesn’t look like there’s a new JFK on the horizon (yet).
