i’m genuinely done in a bit, when you see what is at stake and how much people from all walks of life really believe in him…oh man, what’s that in my eye…

But the Dems still aren’t going to let him be picked are they?

All feels a bit hopeless…

As in not enough people will vote for him?

I literally assume that the whole thing is fixed although I guess Obama would never have beaten Hillary that time if it was so maybe… but also I’m guessing this round of voting for the nominee is wildly weighted by the sort of neoliberals who are pretty scared of Bernie (much as I imagine if voting on the Conservative leader had been farmed out to Tory voters rather than just members, then Johnson wouldn’t have got it).

iirc alexander cockburn wrote that obama had been groomed for years for the 2008 run by one faction of the party while hillary had been groomed by the other. they settled on obama because he could pose as the outsider candidate who was an authentic break with the bush era unlike hillary. if he could have run for a 3rd term hillary would have been laughed out of the room by the dnc establishment in 2015, she was just the best they had after 8 years of complacency.

the mid-00s were so crazy in retrospect, especially between 9/11 and the first obama win. i mean we think trump is bad but we lived through the bush admin and that was real deal christian fascism complete with an all out war of conquest. there were so many good dirt digging blogs and websites compared to now too, think i got switched on politically just from chancing on long read articles about evangelicals and the kochs etc.

not really the mid-00s this is it, it’s basically the whole decade :man_facepalming:

Anyone who fancies it can put their name forward for the Democratic nomination. Indeed, never before are so many people giving it a try.

It’s a free vote. It’s up to the candidate to make a convincing case for their policies.

While voting procedures vary per state, the primary is never a members only vote. Millions and millions can and do participate. Comparisons with choosing a party leader in the UK are wildly off the mark.

There was a good twitter thread knocking about last month about some of the absolutely insane shit that went on during W’s time in charge that’s disappeared down the memory hole since Trump destroyed everyone’s brain. You probably posted it actually

ah i remember that, i didn’t post it tho. but i retweeted the hell out of it.

I posted it! It was really interesting

Here we go

Wild stuff, stuff we can all look forward to the next time there’s a Republican presidency with an actually organised, determined team of psychopaths backed to the hilt by the machine working under it.
