The unbelievable versatility of nets 🥅

Yes, came here to say those brown net shopping bags that everyone in Neighbors used

Those big nets that catch trapeze artists who fall

I thought nets were versatile last night, and this morning I’m just blown away by how much more they do

What do you call a woman who stands between two goal posts?

Mary Earps?

If your girl stands between two goal posts then she’s a keeper!

Sorry.

If you have a baby in a birthing pool the birth partner gets given a little net to fish out any poo that comes out during the birth.
So poo net

Would you consider that nets were invented? Or discovered?

Cos it’s like a mathematical principle so discovered should be right and yet I can’t think of any net-like material in nature that was copied for the earliest neolithic fishing nets …plus the historical best guess is that fishing nets were an adapted technology from weaving/knitting so people must have invented them somehow

What about spider webs (nets)? Obviously not quite the same but possibly inspo for our ancestors

Yeah, the principle is in webs but not the material

So I guess it’s like a confluence of discovery and invention

There were doubtless stages between spearing fish, coralling fish into waters to be more easily speared & then simply catching them in some stick-constructed matrix/cage/trap which got refined to just lobbing a net in and scooping them up
