Bricking it, but off to the pub shortly which will help a fair bit

Voted. The area around my polling station is pitch black. No street lights around. Had to use my phone torch to get there and back. Madness!

Apparently UWE Frenchay ran out of polling cards, such huge turn out.

Voted; home; can open (no lads, though). Starting with the good beers - I’ll move on to the shit stuff when I can’t taste tastes anymore.

No queues at my polling station, but felt like there was a bit more of a buzz than previous elections. Certainly the most nervous I’ve felt voting since Indyref (I assumed my fellow countrypeople would surely not be that fucking stupid over Brexit…).

I’ve voted had proper panic I couldn’t find Labour. Did in the end.

So I was never really sure of my sister’s political leanings until the last election, when she posted a picture of her dog outside a polling station with the caption “<her dog’s name> loves voting and Jeremy Corbyn”. She works to prevent re-offending with high risk people, so in retrospect it makes a lot of sense. But, anyway.

Her seat is also my mum‘s is a proper marginal - was Tory, went to Labour last time by less than a thousand votes.

My mum instilled a deep hatred of Tories growing up but is a bit… errrr Brexity these days. So was mostly concerned she wasn’t going to vote.

Anyway, messaged my sister to see what was going on, and:

Why?

He looks pretty centrist …is that why?

Haven’t been able to be engaged with you lot this week because I’m in the middle of moving out of my mum’s old place and I’m still without broadband. It’s been profoundly stressful to step back from trying to sort out where everything’s going to think “oh yeah, I have to worry about that as well”. Went back to Stockport to vote and almost wound up driving back to the old heap instead of my silent, boxed up flat.

Once again I’ll be taking the coward’s way out tonight with a sleeping pill at 9. The two times I stayed up to watch an election roll in were the 2016 US election and the Referendum itself, two of the worst nights and subsequent days I care to remember. I knocked myself out in 2017 instead, and by contrast that was amazing to wake up to.

Whatever happens I can only reiterate what others have said about this place being an Oasis to come to to discuss politics, there’s nowhere else I feel anywhere near as comfortable talking it all out, nor anywhere with as many thoughtful and good hearted correspondents. I’m incredibly proud of and grateful for all the people who got out there and canvassed and volunteered - remember that whatever happens it’s us that have the momentum and the numbers, these bastards are on the way out and they know it. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon.

C’mon lads. Let’s make it happen again.

What are we saying then

  • Increased tory majority
  • Tory majority
  • Tories largest party, no majority
  • Labour largest party, no majority
  • The Absolutest of boys
  • SWIIIIIINSSSOOOON

Instead of ‘oh Jeremy Corbyn’ you can sing ‘Prime Minister Corbyn’ and it still scans.

Moved to Cardiff North yesterday but went back to Penarth (Cardiff South and Penarth is a safer Labour seat but I couldn’t register at my new house as it’s a new build) to vote today.

At home now with a makeshift TV setup (a new indoor aerial and a computer monitor) and an average-looking Beer 52 box on the go. Wasn’t sure it would get any signal until just now but :+1::rose: good luck everyone!

Wish I wasn’t at work for 6am tomorrow so I could stay up late and drink tins. Will watch the exit poll and a bit of the preamble then bed. May wake up earlier than usual to check the progress.

Yeah ok! Still sounds a bit silly to me but I accept it’s a thing!

tory majority?! are you all mad? Nobody likes them

Actually I’m going for Labour / SNP / Green / Plaid coalition. Tories the biggest party but outgunned by the good’uns

Meh, I look pretty centrist when I’m at work but I’m for board level gender quotas, UBI, post-Colonial reparations, lowering the voting as to 14, 100% tax on earnings over £125k and nationalising the private rental market

So :man_shrugging:t2:

Though in my echo chamber all the anti tories seem united for the first time ever. Voting tactically against the Tories and all rallying behind Labour.

Oh God, I just left the echo chamber. Someone in a Facebook group of Collyhurst residents, which I joined for historical research, has asked who everyone is voting. And its overwhelmingly Tory. Collyhurst is one of the poorest districts in Manchester. Some who didn’t say Tories said “I’m working class but anyone but labour”.

What. Why. Why did I click on the post. Fuck.
