A real shame that ‘fashy bashing’ didn’t catch on instead imo

To be fair I might have only just noticed this trend because I watched the Proud Boys clip from last night.

Besides that i havent really taken in any news in a format that includes audio for maybe about 2 years*, so for all I know everyone could have been pronouncing it like that all along and I’m the outlier.

*the possibility of hearing a human voice saying all the stupid shit political correspondents say increases the dread that somehow actual humans still believe the sickening bullshit they spout. Seeing it just in written text allows me to pretend that it’s all just a sick joke played out by discobot.

Fucking astonished. Even by his standards Trump was a monster. I use monster deliberately as so much of the language is about him being laughable, or incompetent, or dumb, embarrassing or whatever but he is more dangerous than that.

The Stand Down and Stand By comment left me so cold. The sad thing is as shocking as it was its not that surprising. Literally a call to arms. And the comment about hoping his supporters watch the polls in response to being asked if he would tell them to avoid violence.

To go from reading that to then reading about Priti Patel wanting an immigration centre popped in the middle of the atlantic has left me feeling so low. what the fuck is this world. I need to look at some kittens.

Just finished watching it.

The best bit is the CNN commentators immediately afterwards. They are aghast at what they have just witnessed. Sample quote: “that was a shit-show”.

I’m not saying it’s a strategy that will win, my point is that everything about this Dem campaign for me screams that they are trying to appeal to republicans who hate Trump and those in the centre who care only about taxes etc.

Obviously the Dems also have a base which will include people who know Biden is terrible but still better for various reasons than Trump.

So yeah, I don’t think they are as worried about shedding a few more leftist voters as they are about seeming too unpalatable to Rep voters who don’t want yo vote Trump

Caught some of the ‘highlights’, proper end of empire stuff eh. ‘Will you shut up man’ was a good line but it’s in a sea of blithering, rabbity nonsense from our saviour, it doesn’t look like he landed a serious punch on Trump all night. A queeny New York real estate guy more or less calling for a fascist uprising is very blackly humourous, I will admit.

There’ll be a civil war there within 20 years.

I watched it live, am I weird for thinking Trump “won” here? Obviously he was being full dirty WWE bad guy about it interrupting at every turn and taking over the debate and always getting the last word in. Trump went really hard on his son about the whole “he got paid millions for doing nothing by Russia” thing, that was Trump at his most angry it seemed, but obviously an attempt to wind up Biden.

Whenever Biden did get a chance to speak it came across as forced to me, all those times he looked directly in the camera and painting those pictures of what life was like for the average American at home just came across as disingenuous and rehearsed. Trump knew what he was doing when he was interrupting Biden too it made him stumble on his words and look weak.

I’m probably wrong but I think to beat Trump you’ve got to play him at his own game at least a bit, interrupt him constantly too and should have gone harder on the whole tax thing, maybe even allude he should be in jail like Trump did back with the Clinton debates in 2016, and obviously jump on the disgusting “stand back and stand by” thing.

I think Trump certainly achieved what he set out to do, and in that sense is very clearly a winner. He’s never going to debate in the traditional sense, so his tactic of just completely flustering and badgering his opponent works well. Absolutely nailed all his soundbites too.

No he definitely won. He was just himself, which as you say can be got at, but Biden forgot how he got to this stage and quivered and quavered and have-you-no-decency-sir-ed. He needed to be calling him a fat jack and talking fondly about driving a big car in Wilmington.

But of course just like the '16 debates all the lib outlets have declared Biden the winner. They’re in a different reality to the rest of us just as surely as the Republican base are. As said, civil war in 20 years, there’s no way or will to hold this together anymore.

Guys, the debates don’t make any difference to the election outcome. Debating who ‘won’ is pointless because the boomers who will decide this election don’t give a shit either way

This. Fox news will show plenty of clips of Trump ‘owning’ Biden. The centrist outlets will show the opposite. No one learns anything.

Meh. Mon the Foxes.

Yeah I know it’s all a circus, these debates arnt about getting the undecided onboard. Is anyone undecided in the US right now? People either know who they’re gonna vote for or not vote at all I guess.

Telling the Proud Boys to stand by was particularly bad, but it also overshadowed Trump going on about the forest fires being all down to the ground not being cleared.

Something to fill the minutes in before total ecological collapse innit.

I’d rather fill the minutes debating the new Sufjan Stevens album or something to be honest, distractions are supposed to be enjoyable
