I would love this if it was all a hilarious double bluff and they announce that they’ve been recording and rehearsing as the original quartet for the past year. Amazing publicity. I don’t know if Billy’s that smart though.

Either way, this tour is going to be at least three of them playing all their best songs/hits by the sounds of it, so – take my money, Corgan.

Just an incredibly toxic relationship that doesn’t even sound particularly rooted in a friendship that can be salvaged.

As the interviewer repeatedly suggests; that all this ‘communication’ has take place over text is staggering. Suggests neither party was particularly serious about getting this off the ground in the first place.

According to D’Arcy they were never friends

i’m surprised how much people are reading into all of this and making assumptions about what one party is saying or alluding to. no-one has a clue what the whole story is. i get why people are interested to hear what’s gone on though…

it’s all a bit sad that all of this is coming out now around the time when there should be some excitement. it does bewilder me a little as to why d’arcy thought its a good idea to release texts, or excerpts of a text conversation…but its obviously clear that she’s not happy that she’s not a part of the reunion. i don’t think that she’s necessarily coming out of this especially well though. and billy will perennially be disliked by most people…

still excited about tomorrow though!

It seems quite clear cut to me, Billy pretended to offer full involvement, she tried to take him up on the offer but he became very slippery, never invited her to the studio recruited a replacement, she gave up because she wasn’t wanted. she started to tell people what happened, while he told people she was the one who had deferred, they release a press statement putting it on her for not being involved, she releases the texts to show how slippery and disingenuous Billy was being

He has been pretty standard for years now in saying he couldn’t give a fuck what other people (as in the public) think of him (whether that’s true or not is harder to say but :man_shrugging: )

So US tour…no Darcy

What a fucking anti climax that countdown was

That’s completely how I felt about it. I thought that it’s a video, it would be a snippet of new music, but no, an extended tour announcement

Knew all this shit for over a week already. All this hype for a nostalgia fest. No new music, no sneak peek into recording sessions/demo/new track/jimmy,james and billy all jamming together, darcy sneaking in to say hi…

Took awhile for the tour dates to appear after the count down, kinda hoped they’d decided to give it a miss after the d’arcy stuff

Do agree that the countdown was completely unnecessary, but do people really want another Smashing Pumpkins album in 2018 (or beyond)? Surely classic line-up (or 3/4s of it) nostalgia tour is probably about the only thing they can do which has a more than 10% chance of being good?

What I’m really trying to say is: Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are two of the all/time greatest albums, and I wasn’t old enough to see the classic lineup the first time around, so a tour “celebrating songs from the first 5 albums” is pretty much ideal for me. Will most likely buy a ticket if they tour Europe

I was hoping there would be some music, last Corgan album was good

Corgan on Instagram talking up a ‘3 guitar supershoegaze alignment’ recreating those old songs properly for the first time has got me excited, won’t lie.

No mention of a bass player on that video. Keeping options open, still?

Am i right in thinking it’s going to be Peter Hook’s son on bass?

Yeah, looks like it - if those texts are to be believed.

Just remembered that time the guitarist from Killers and the drummer from RATM were in Smashing Pumpkins smh.

I definitely do! I’ve talked a lot already about it in this thread, but if you don’t compare the new stuff to the original run and just take it for what it is, there’s been a LOT of fantastic music since the 2007 reformation. I’d say the reunion, while technically “unsuccessful” by many metrics, has created more great music than most celebrated bands have in that same time period. I’m also very encouraged not only by how good Ogilala was, but how much of a step away from the direction of Monuments it was. Even though it was in a different way than the original output and even Oceania, the melody and heart resurfaced. I think he can still write a great album (and the idea of his teaming up with Jimmy again is very exciting - he’s truly the best).

Not sure if I’ll go anymore but hope they dress appropriately, have costume changes ranging from early psychedelic disco shirt era, through cosmic silver trousers and ending up in full leather pantaloons era
