I have kinda accepted that eggs can (almost) be okay if they are from the right place. There is a proper family run farm in the NW and I can buy their eggs locally and have cycled out there to see it and the hens are treated ridiculously well and have a huge space to roam freely. Might be somewhere nearby that you could check out to assuage your guilt? Idk

It’s this place btw: About our eggs — Higher Oak Farm

(MME/Chorlton DiSsers - you can get them from Out of the Blue and probably elsewhere too)

Really really annoyingly by local Big Tesco has stopped stocking all Vivera stuff. I really liked their burgers and chicken pieces as well :frowning:

Ethically sourced eggs are certainly not oeuful.

Reported.

Don’t be fowl.

Don’t make this.

Anyone got any suggestions for vegetarian/vegan beige dinner staples? You know, when you can’t be arsed cooking but can’t justify a takeaway so you put on some beans and stick some potato waffles in the oven with some [blank] from the freezer.

Quorn southern fried bites.

Quorn escalopes (although they are cheesy so you might be shitting through the eye of a needle).

Went from eating meat for two meals a day almost every day, to trying to cut it down to one meal a week at the start of the year, to full veggie from around February. Have found it surprisingly easy, but then I live in a city where everywhere has really good veggie options, and I live on my own so don’t really cook for anyone else. Stocked up on good cookbooks as well so do loads of stuff from Green Roasting Tin, Fresh India etc.

Don’t really miss it except for things I used to have quite rarely weirdly, like was craving nduja sausage there for a while. And I’m definitely still heavily relying on dairy and eggs.

Any suggestions for a Christmas dinner turkey alternative? Might make a nut roast or something.

Nut roast is the best thing ever (if you make a good one). Has been the source of much balonz-mockery over the course of my life but fuck them. My mum’s Christmas nut roast tastes much better than the dead flesh of anything ever could. Must be my turn for an end piece this year.

(if not some sort of Wellington would be delightful)

Excellent. Plus it means I get to sing ā€œnut roast city limits!ā€ while I’m cooking.

Oooh also recently discovered ā€˜vegeterian cauliflower cheese grills’ from Tesco frozen section, they are yummy and easy for a lazy mid week dinner.

I was thinking about nduja at the weekend - the flavour isn’t especially porky is it? I’m sure you could fake it with the right blend of chillis and… something.
