what was everyone actually listening to in 1987, rather than what your favourite album was from the year. I’m aware this discounts anyone who isn’t old but it’s interesting.

I was 12 and quite heavily into Fleetwood Mac’s Tango in the Night. Was also a big fan of Level 42 and Running in the family. I can also remember listening to this absolute turkey of an album.

Beastie Boys album was the year before. I think The Mirror ran a story about them being cruel to kids in a hospital so she took quite a dim view on hip hop music generally.

Along with that, loads of random stuff that got radio play. I liked INXS, The Cult, Whitesnake (shudder), Living in a Box (obviously)… The old cliche of making compilation tapes from the top 40 show on Sunday.
