Managed to get a return for The Ferryman yesterday and it is fantastic - brilliant cast and the lengthy running time just flies back. Definitely going back for the transfer, think it will be a big hit.
Just saw City Of Glass at Hammersmith Lyric yesterday. It’s based on the first story of Paul Auster’s New York Trilogy. and it was completely amazing. Really faithful to the strangeness of the book, greatly performed by the cast, and had superb lighting and animated effects on the set as well. Thoroughly recommend it.
about a third of the way through rehearsing blood brothers. such an amazing script, it gets better with age imo, so many fantastic moments. the music is a little dated although that’s the time period i suppose. little less synth and it’s fine.
How on earth do subtitles work in the theatre. Is it like a subterranean homesick blues placard situation?
Usually just a screen above the stage, or behind where the action is.
Missed out on the pre-sale for Mosquitoes, but tickets go on general sale tomorrow. Hopefully we’ll be able to get a couple for that:
Usually projected onto a screen. Pretty common in operas.
When they’re shown above the stage they’re called surtitles ![]()
i saw St Joan a while ago and thought it was a fairly poor production. I should start a blog of theatre reviews, that’s what the world needs.
Stuck in a queue for ages and it’s all sold out.
Think we’ll have to try for day tickets…
Saw both Angel in America yesterday. Just so much to take in, I’m still reeling from it now.
Is this City of Glass play any good, friends?
Went to see Jakop Ahlbom’s ‘Horror’ at The Peacock Theatre at the weekend. Lovely stuff - amazing lighting, sound and general stagecraft. Was expecting it maybe to be slightly more scary, especially having seen Ghost Stories a couple of years back, but the humour, physicality of the performances and references to numerous classic horror flicks more than made up for it. In particular, great use of Crazy Horses as the soundtrack to the final showdown.
It’s finishing this week, but I believe this is its second run, so well worth catching if it comes around again…
Say what?
Went to see the first part of Angels In America last night - just extraordinary. The ambition and scope is so far ahead of anything else I’ve seen, to the point that I thought they were showing off a bit by the end.
Also, if you are going to an evening showing, get there with plenty of time to spare before the 7.00pm start - the queues for the bag check (!) were still there at 7.10.
Looking forward to it tonight ![]()
Enjoy! We’re off to Ferryman tonight!
Had tickets to see Ink on Monday but was too ill, vexved. Barbershop Chronicles tonight.
Was thinking I should pick up tickets for that now they’ve extended the run- hope you have a good night!
