Yeah it has to be the same people. But two seasons ago City away paid for itself, and we did Stoke, United, City, Leicester and Swansea so we saved a fortune. Said mate can’t do away games this year though as he’s just been diagnosed with Colitis so can’t really travel.

Ive also driven to United away twice and parked in Altrincham and got the tram to old Trafford as it’s the quickest way out. Could that be cheaper by train?

Not when you factor in the cost of having to learn to drive…

No I mean getting a train to Altrincham?

I’ll drive you for a fraction (99/100) of the cost of the rail tickets.

Just an idea but it’s an away game I was thinking of going to as I’m guaranteed a ticket. IF I went and drove would you want to split petrol costs?

Possibly pal, think the mate I’m going with had set the wheels in motion for trains now but I’ll let you know innit. Much appreciated.

No worries, let me know. Note if United tonk us you run the risk of walking home.

Tone, it does look like train prices drop.

When I checked the train prices for Liverpool v Palace recently, they’d jumped up to £85. Now the games only 10 days away, prices are back down to £60. Still not as cheap as they were originally at £45 ish, But now i’ve got to decide whether to go and whether match tickets are still available.

Nice one, cheers

Ignore this, I messed up as I was looking at the wrong date. It’s actually £82 return.

The thing is, I went ahead and bought a match ticket. Plus I forgot I was seeing a play in London the night before.

I’ve booked my train ticket for Liverpool next weekend. I was considering club coach, but that left at 7am and would probably be horrendous.

I’ve never got a club coach to a game. I can imagine they’d have a few characters on there.

Used to get a supporters coach up to matches back when I lived in Kent and there were definitely “characters”. Been considering getting involved with a London based one but I can’t face that long on a fucking coach. At least it wouldn’t be a 3am pick up for lunchtime kick offs like it was back in the day for me though…

It is always tempting to drive, but half the fun is the train there and back and having a few beers.

The Palace coach to Liverpool leaves at 7am for a 3pm kickoff, so I’d have to leave home at 6:15. With the train I can leave at 9:15.

Coach cost £29 and train £87.

Last time I went by coach was to a midweek game against Blackburn. I vowed never again.

Remember having a 3am start for a United Liverpool match in the depths of winter years ago that was in real danger of being snowed off even as we were halfway there. It didn’t thank fuck but it was touch and go. Long distance coaches are so bleak.

I can’t drive and don’t drink but I do bloody love a nice train journey to be fair. Just disgustingly expensive innit.

I remember going to Forest away in the cup, it was postponed twice, finally went ahead at the 3rd attempt.

get a cheap flight to somewhere that has cheap rail travel, then sell the story to the papers with the hook: what has society come to, it was cheaper for this man to fly somewhere and ride a train than ride a train here (because he likes riding on trains). Then use the money from the papers to pay for the flights and trains. Free holiday!

If you notice any deals for trains to United v Palace let me know. Not sure I’m willing to pay £80 odd quid again though.

I’ve not been to Anfield (as always seemed to be on a Sunday) for about 15 years but have been to Old Trafford a few times.

Offers still there for a car share if you want to save cash.
