They Might Be Giants

Great band with no thread that I can find.

All gold up to and including John Henry IMO, which is a good run - still moments to be found subsequently (though admit not as familiar with later albums).

Was going to write that they get unfairly maligned as “wacky” but can see they don’t do themselves many favours when arguing against that. Just call it playful, very much their own thing. Anyway, so many great songs, feel free to put your hand inside the puppet head.

I can only take them in small doses, but when I’m in the mood, they’re great!

Ah, lots of car trips with my dad listening to Flood/Lincoln/Apollo 18 over and over probably helped my tolerance at a young age

Never really listened beyond the first three albums, but those three are amazing.
Nice Carseat Headrest cover of Dead here:

Saw the video to Ana Ng when I was a youth. Blew my mind.
Been a fan ever since.

Flood is incredible.

Hard to pick a favourite song. Probably this one though:

Not heard that before - abrasively good cover, haven’t listened to them since Teens of Denial should get that sorted

The 60 Songs That Explain the 90s TMBG episode is terrific. Helped me move beyond just thinking of them as wacky:

They might be, but they likely are not.

There’s an episode of Joel Morris’ podcast Comfort Blanket that performs much the same function for Flood.

Just want to register my amusement at a TMBG topic being started on the day of a Cheekface album release.

Enjoy them a lot. Annoyed that they rescheduled their 2023 date (due to illness tbf) to a date in 2024 that I couldn’t do :frowning: As a result, not seen them live since…2016, which sucks as they are a lot of fun live.

We had a couple of their (nominally) for children albums on CD in the car for years when our two were little. These two:

Might just get them back into circulation - good for all occasions. Remember this one pretty much soundtracked weaning for both kids…

Wonder what the reason is that people are not posting the one song this band is known for

Fine here we go -
