This guy, Ea Nasir, is pretty much only known to historians via the letters his pissed-off customers wrote him circa 1750BC (so nearly 3000 years ago), which are still around. The British Museum’s got this one, but there are others floating around too.

Yeah ancient history pretty much goes:

Egalitarian hunter gatherers -> Self-governing tribes with chieftains and some slaves -> Kingdoms with loads peasants and slaves -> Giant oppressive empires

when they start comparing it to TV shows it sort of starts to make sense. like one episode of some pish on e4 would cost £50k an episode and get watched by 0.5m folk. some dude making a video about minecraft or makeup tips will get watched by the same amount of people, and even if the advertising revenue is only a fraction of what the tv pulls in, it all goes in one persons pocket. if they’re punting out a video every week they could be seriously minted.
