Thanks for reading my blog

My friend of nearly 25 years having a sudden libertarian awakening in his mid 30s, claiming that systemic racism doesn’t exist in the US and that Trump isn’t a racist and calling him one is the same thing as calling Obama a Muslim socialist. I think it’s taken years off of my life the past few days.

Verified people on twitter (usually very minor journalists) with fewer than 5,000 followers. Just saw one with 888 :grimacing: Really mate??

Reckon you should have at least 100,000 or be a well-known public figure to get a blue tick.

No idea if this is actually the case, but with journalists maybe publications they work for might make sure they get verified?

That is probably the case and would make sense. Still cringey though and I feel sorry for the person.

the journalists themselves do it too i think. remember one of my mates trying to get verified when she worked for a national newspaper and had like maybe 800 followers.

i don’t think its that difficult basically.

any disers verified? reckon theo deserves it

My wife is verified. She worked for a magazine that did a fluff piece on Twitter after being invited on a tour of their HQ a few years ago, and Twitter offered to verify all of their journos in return for a bit of positive coverage.

All a bit of a nonsense really (think she has about 3k followers but rarely ever tweets).

Not sure about twitter but instagram is stupid - some people and businesses just can not get verified, then some people who don’t need to be can.

I’ve tried to get verified but have been turned down twice and they never say why (if you use linktree or link to something indirectly you won’t get verified but loads of people rely on linktree). The company I work for can’t get verified either.

It’s meaningless really unless someone is trying to imitate you.

Yeah, you can apply yourself, basically all you need is some sort of public profile (like a journalist) and you’re in with a shot. I should try it.

i thought about trying to get verified a couple of years ago just coz i was bored one week at work, but if you cant get verified i definitely wont be able to get verified. although i dont know what linktree is so maybe i would get verified, which would be quite funny. you can see the problem

I removed linktree from mine the second time before applying and I still got refused, and still no reason given. Instagram is a pain, not being able to use the swipe up feature until you’ve got 10k followers etc.

i know theres benefits to having it on insta but twitter it just seems like theres nothing that special about it

i’ve been refused every time i’ve applied, for various different brands. dunno what that says about them (or me) :grimacing:

Well now I feel bad don’t I. Apologies to your wife.

Don’t think about that stuff.

(my attempt at CBT)

I tell you what’s sad?! I’m not sure I’ve ever even heard Los Camp, I just assume they are terrible. They are though aren’t they? Thought so.

EDIT : Oh wait I’ve heard “You! Me! Dancing!”, and that’s why I hate them.
