Yeah it’s originally Christmas thing with the horse, there’s accounts of people dressing up as representatives of the dead on the 1st day of winter for calan gaeaf or samhain etc - its all originated from the same type of tradition of “dress up and annoy your neighbours because the season’s changing”

Same with hugging. I think Friends basically brought hugging to the UK.
