clothes no, heights yes I think

like what’s it like to be short or tall?

how does it change your perception of yourself and others I wonder

I guess if you live in the city you get desensitised to this because everyone is just from everywhere but for me it’s so exciting

which generic part of england is your accent from?

I’m from Cornwall but don’t have a strong accent. My sister does though :man_shrugging:

I like the dialect. ‘Back a long’ to describe something that happened in the past. that’s nice.

sounds great! Any famous cornwall people so I could get a picture of what the accent is?

BOOOOOOOOOO!

I don’t mind really

I suppose it can be a bit of a mixed blessing, depending on how purely you want to speak. Personally I think it adds uniqueness and character.

you know how english people think they´re speaking spanish by adding an a or an o after an english word? spanish people do the same but remove the letter. get a lot of the following:

duck - pat (pato)
cow - vac (vaca)
cat - gat (gato)

another thing is no one knows how to say central heating here. They try and say it as ´calefacc´ (calefacción) and I always want to shout ´DREAM OF CALIFORNICATION´ when they do it

I lived in Cornwall for 3 years and still thought a Devonian woman I worked with a few years later was from Scotland

I’m absolute cack at recognising accents.

get northern irish and scottish mixed up all the time.

^ this message brought to you by colonialism.
:wink::grin:

They’re our celtic cousins and a great bunch o’ lads and lasses to be fair and yes there’s Ulster Scots etc so a fair bit of crossover.

Weirdly had some Scottish people think I was Mancunian once though.

as a southerner, they´re easy to mistake if you´re not paying attention and hear the accent in the background.

Aye I was only messing.
There’s some accents in NI that I struggle with ffs
This would be a good thread for someone to put that DiS map into.

Looking up Ulster Scots on Wikipedia I ended up here, look at some of these amazing names:

The McGillycuddy of the Reeks, Lord of Doonebo
Prince of the Fews, Don Carlos O’Neill, 12th Marquis of Granja
Tadhg na Mainistreach Mac Carthaigh Mór, King of Desmond
The Count O’Donnell of Austria, O’Donell von Tyrconnell
O’Nelly, The Count O’Nelly of Austria, Commander of the 72nd Bohemian Regiment

any jacobites in there?

Only Irish sounding one of the bunch

I think a lot were displaced by James I’s plantation of Ulster so I reckon not a love of sympathy for our true monarchs, alas.

Some of those names probably originate from the Jacobite flight from Ireland, or Irish mercenaries fighting abroad!
