Played bass in a really bad nu metal band.

Had very long hair and a little goatee.

Wore ridiculously baggy trousers and TWO wallet chains.

swung punches at innocent passers-by in the school corridors and then delivered a further two punches if they “flinched”

What about people who did the one strap diagonally across their torso? Bit try hard

Bought a leather bracelet with metal studs - wore it for one day before the piss-taking became too much.

Similar story with a rubber necklace / bracelet that looked like barbed wire brought from the Gadget Shop. Saddest thing is, I remember buying it with my mum there, and she obviously knew how terrible it would be, but she let me do it anyway. Fucking supportive parents!

Don’t remember anyone doing that until people started carrying record bags.

I had a Dunlop bag briefly that only had one strap which ran diagonally. The issue was, the strap connected at the front via a large velcro patch, and once people realised this, they could simply walk up to you and easily yank it off. Had to revert to a normal backpack in less than a week. Looked kind of like this but green:

Might have been a trend localised to my school but people tried to emulate the cross strap bag with regular backpacks

had one of these that held my phone and a lil tub of palmers cocoa butter

Wore my school tie really long. Or really short. With a massive knot. Or a tiny one. With the thin side showing and the fat side tucked in my shirt. Or vice versa. And any combination thereof. All depending in which way to wear your tie was cool that week.

There are no cool ways to wear a school tie.

Pretended to like football. Less to seem cool, more to avoid getting beaten up or being called weird or some homophobic slur or other.

Wore odd fluorescent towelling socks, one yellow, one pink (or orange) with burgundy or grey stay-prest trousers, mmm (this was 1982 for context!)

I hat an army surplus bag from moffats, covered in sew on patches and drawn on band logos with colouring pencils, I still think this is cool tbh

Hoddy underneath school blazer at all times, obviously

There was a period of time where this trend started to change and some of the cooler kids started doing two shoulders. That transitional period was a dangerous time, not knowing when it was acceptable for someone of my social ranking to make the switch.

Even as an adult i notice there’s always an absolute prick in any social group who smokes Marlboro Lights. That was me. Occasionally Embassy Milds, Royals Lights. Whatever nobody else smoked i’d smoke. Remember getting on Senior Service once, and for a brief time in the mid-nineties designer fags came out. I forget the exact brands, but generally went round giving it the “What, you’ve never smoked Tommy Hilfigers, mate, LOL!”.

Shaved a line into my eyebrow lol
