Things you do not allow your real or imaginary kids to do or have

I’ve been a very permissive parent and basically tried to have the attitude of “Try it, but bear in mind…”. He seems to have turned out better (so far) than some of his mates who have stricter parents. I occasionally have to remind him about why he should/shouldn’t be doing something and I will let him take the consequences of his misdemeanours if they occur.
Happy to be shot at for this opinion because, in the end, we’re all just making it up as we go along

He caves, or just lets them have stuff like coke, chocolate and that which I would never buy as I don’t like it but he does do :person_shrugging: .

@colon_closed_bracket @anon50098204 grandparent laxness is outrageous, my dad who would make me and my two sisters share 1 fudge between us will feed my kids pancakes, doughnuts, chocolate, ice-cream etc all the time

Parents:

Have you ever used the phrase “ask your mum / dad” in order to defer the decision making to your partner?

  • I’ve done it, and had it done to me
  • I’ve done it, but have not had it done to me
  • I’ve not done it, but have had it done to me
  • I’ve neither done it nor had it done to me

Kind of similar, I don’t really ever buy that stuff so I rarely have it around to give to R regardless of how I feel about him having it.

Then his dad loads him up with a load of rubbish the two days he has him.

Harder to do with split parents.

“ask your dad”
“I’m not seeing him for three days!”
“you’ll have to wait then”

Guess it’s what you’re used to isn’t it.

He also buys them electronic things of bigger value than I’d say is appropriate because he has a thing about researching for the best rated stuff. So kids end up with better phones, headphones etc than me as I just buy whatever is cheap and / or get his secondhand ones.

Smurfs? Water type pokemon?

I don’t have kids. My imaginary kids will not be allowed to vote Tory.

Oh, no TV in their rooms is a thing for me. Although now you can watch Netflix etc on anything this is a bit redundant. No phones / devices upstairs after bedtime is how it has been implemented.

We appear to have turned our son into a revolutionary. He’s started drawing slogans saying ‘central government out’ and ‘why won’t you stop being mean’.

Good stuff.
