Only Island City in the UK, innit :+1:

That ‘curtains closed’ in colloquial reference to death means when the curtains at a crematorium close (I think?!)

32 years old I am

Find it weirdly amusing that when Sinatra says “And so I face the final curtain” he’s talking about a crematorium rather than his final stage performance.

Despite the pun in the title, it took me over 10 (videprinter: ten) years to realise Bright Eyes’ Road To Joy used the melody of Ode To Joy.

EDIT: I guess it’s more a play on the melody, but the intention was certainly to make use of it.

In all seriousness is this actually true, or is it just a basic run of the mill metaphor? I mean the dead don’t really “face” crematorium curtains do they?

Kinda this. I think it was written by Paul Anka to be performed in such a way as to reflect both

or maybe he just needed a rhyme for certain.

Well I’d never really considered it before, I’ve always just assumed it was about a last curtain call on stage, and never assumed a second meaning, I just said what I did then because allisfulloflove’s post made me think about it.

the sister sledge song, ‘we are family’ is not purely metaphorical. they are in fact family, and sisters to be precise

Is the name WhatsApp a play on “What’s Up” / “What’s happening”?

Okay I’ve just checked Wiki and I’ve been slow to realise this:

This might just be the ‘winning’ post in the thread.

WHATZapp doesn’t sound like What’s up.
