Apparently grape juice is naturally clear. Macerating the skins with the juice gives it colour :man_shrugging:

Hence the use of a red grape (pinot noir) in champagne. Leave the skins in for a bit and you’ve got yer pink champers.

In the two word title, I was aware that Tarantino spelled it ‘Basterds’ but I only just realised he also spells the other word ‘Inglourious’
