But the point is: most people in their first / second year of uni are a long way away from honing their thoughts and arguments into something useful. I’ve sat in seminars and listened to the kind of stuff you’re writing, and whilst there are nuggets of truth in there it’s way off in other areas. I mean: your arguments about books and money are both grounded in some sort-of truth but have so many flaws that it would take me more time than I have to unpick them. You’re a bright lad, Bamnan.

Not at all, I post on the music board a bit. More people will vote and interact with it and the discussion is more broad on the social board though. Also, that’s where Juke started and does the TV ones so seemed to make sense.

I think @guntrip’s point was more that that TV talk belongs in the social board while music chat has its own dedicated one.

But I also think I like to read the crazy shitposting on the topic of music these generate from all those posters who don’t go near the music board. On there I think HGATR would be in danger of having good opinions in the majority.

Basically MTftSB only really exists because of the Social Board posters who never post on the music board but have opinions we’d find interesting. : (

Re: the stuff about academic publishing being a racket, UCL have started making everything they publish available in a free, open-access PDFs alongside the traditional books (which are still expensive I guess, because of relatively low print runs). But still, it’s a big step in the right direction.
