When I was 12 or so I was convinced I could get our computer on to the internet if I persevered fiddling round with Windows and all the free software it came with for long enough. I knew that everyone I knew who had the internet had signed up and paid for it, but look, all the icons are RIGHT THERE, surely it must be possible.

The onset of puberty does crazy things to a young mans mind. ā€œmust…get…porn!!!ā€

Inspired by the Ready Brek advert, surely:

Probably a bit earlier than that. (I’m well old )

I do remember my little boy aged about 5 trying to put a bit of card that had a picture of ben 10 on into the back of his DS saying ā€œplease work! please work!ā€ thinking it would make a ben 10 game appear.

Was convinced for a long time that my dad had given the Queen a lift, in retrospect it was my great grandma and I just wasn’t very good at distinguishing between old ladies.

When people talked about their feelings I had it in my head that feelings might be like another organ, a little bag of something like rice pudding,

My dad always used to say to me ā€œYou’re my favorite daughterā€ and then I’d say ā€œBut I’m your only daughter!ā€ and he’d say "No I have Mel C, Geri, Victoria, Mel B and Emma"
I might have believed that for a short period of time.

firmly believed that the person who played the Hulk also played David Banner in the 70’s Incredible Hulk seriers.

Thanks, would have also accepted ā€œdoes anybody love anybody anyway?ā€

I almost went down that road but then changed due to the audience I was addressing

i remember asking my dad at what age did i get to choose my ā€˜adult name’, because i hated my name, and his name is Neal and I thought there is no way there was ever a small child called Neal because that would just be weird

(wanted to change my name to Jason or Zach obvs)

My step dad always wheels out this story about how I asked him…

a) If I fired a gun and there was nothing in the way would it go all the way round the world and hit me in the back of the head
b) If I was on a boat and jumped really really high would I land further back on the boat from where I jumped

…the point of the wheeling out being ā€œdon’t kids say stupid thingsā€ but I still contend these are good questions and he is just still ashamed that he couldn’t answer them.

he just laughed at me and then used it against me for the next 27 years

The answer to the first question is ā€œnoā€. No matter how big the gun, and no matter what type of bullet you’re using, all bullets start to slow down once fired.

Second question, though - probably!

They are good questions. Contrary to what @ninetyeightytwo says the answer to the first one is definitely ā€œpossibly, it depends on how fast you fire itā€. Even with air resistance there is a theoretical velocity that would make it do exactly that. Pretty fast though.

As for the second one I think the answer is ā€œYesā€, but I’m not confident about it. If it is then the answer is yes however high you jump.

this has reminded me - whenever kids in school talked about getting their playstation chipped down the market so they could play pirated/copied games - I thought this involved taking a hammer or other implement and chipping/removing bits off the console
